Sorry for being a bit dumb, but .. how can you tell? (other than the stray hairs on the forehead)

You can tell by looking at his hairline - The hair looks like it's been place in clumps/plugs as opposed to how hair would naturally look. One thing that I wonder is how noticable this really is. A lot of us on the forum can spot a bad transplant very easily, but essentially we are experts in the topic because we have a discriminating eye. I'm not so sure a regular person who's not looking for it would notice that this guy had a hair transplant.

I could spot that from a mile away, ten years ago before I ever even thought about my own hair. It's a bad transplant, real bad. You could almost put a ruler up to that thing and measure that they stuck a clump of hair in there exactly every 1/8 inch or so.

Next time you are around a little girl with a Barbie doll or something, take a look at the doll's hairline, it will look identical.

If I had that guys hair for life, I wouldn't care if it was a transplant or not.

That's the thing though, how much more hair is he going to lose around the trasplant area, how many more transplants is he going to need, what does he do when he has the classic horseshoe at age 65 and a huge scar on the back of his head and a clump of transplants up front?

That's why I'm not a big fan of transplants, but that's just me. If I were him though I would at least have his current transplant fixed, and filled in more at the hairline.
