Hardly anyone is bald

So I went to the supermarket last night and was observing the hair of most of the men shopping there (sad I know), there were probably around 20-30 men there at the time.
I'm 30 years old and even all of the 50/60 year olds had much better hair than me. How unfair is that!

The only guy who was worse off than me looked like a fat football hooligan and he must have been in his mid 40s.

It made me realise that extensive balding really is quite rare amongst most people. My father had an NW3 hairline throughout his 30s but no bald patches, he only started thinning in his mid 40s. I have a 70 year old great uncle with no hair loss whatsoever!

I have diffuse hair loss that has been getting worse since I was in my early 20s. But looking back at some old photos it may have been there since my late teens. I've never had a receeding hairline, just thinness at the top.

I even went to my doctor when I was 22 to get him to look at my hair and he said it was fine. These doctors know f*** all about hair loss.
I should have gone to a dermatologist or something at that age but didn't know anything about hair loss and that it was treatable.

If only the damn doctor had picked up on the baldness at 22 and put me on finasteride I could have had a nearly full head of hair, instead of this patchy diffuse mess on top.

They really need to advertise finasteride and hairloss products more. There should be signs at your doctor's surgery, just like they tell you to get your blood pressure checked, they should do the same for your hair. Your doctor should mention that your hair is getting thin each time he sees you. How hard is it to do?
But still nothing is done.
The vast majority of people out there do not know about finasteride and minoxidil and it's a damn shame. I would say out of all balding people, less than 1% know about these products. That is pathetic.

Anyway if I ever have a son, I will constantly be checking out his hair and get him on treatment ASAP, that is unless we have the miracle 'cure' that is only 5 years away.

There are 2 sides to that finasteride coin you're flipping around... you MIGHT have better hair now if you had used finasteride since you were 22. But then again, you could be like me, who is (accidentally) also 30 yrs old and DID use finasteride when I was 23 and my hairloss was barely noticeable. Fast forward 'til present, I have only permanent side-effects from finasteride and no hair growth worth mentioning. I'm thin as fook; like I never used that stuff. And I wish I hadn't. What I would give to be able to live without that regret in my life.

Well finasteride maintained my hair for 1.5 years with no loss from 26-28 but I stopped due because I had more serious helath issues that I wanted to make sure that weren't being caused by finasteride.

Needless to say, my hair got a lot worse.

I'm back on it, but now I've just bitten the bullet and buzz it with no guard.

I've still got my hairline, that's the only minor consolation. So when I buzz you can see a shadow at the front.

It's true that the majority of men are full heads. Hardly anyone is bald... including you. :/

You guys should go out more often. I mean, maybe it's not the same elsewhere, but in Brussels, 1 guy out of 3 I see on the street is losing it.

Same where i live i have always wanted to know where some here live cause you ALWAYS seem bald/balding people here its the norm yet some here talk as if its rare.

Same where I'm at. And I'm not talking about 50 year olds. Lots of under 30 baldites.

It depends on the geographical location. In US/East Europe/Asia its not that common. In Western Europe very common.

I see bald/balding men everywhere! I can't imagine that the incidence of male pattern baldness in the population is increasing (although that would be an interesting question for the experts). Maybe it's just because I'm more aware of it now and I've become a Norwood watcher.

I honestly don't know whether to feel depressed or comforted seeing baldies at every turn. A bit of both really.

The area I live is mainly white, so that probably explains the high numbers. I guess if I lived in Japan I wouldn't see nearly as many.

White/caucasians, South Asians (Indians/Pakis), Arabs and Mediterranean (Greeks, Turks) seem to be affected more by male pattern baldness in my observation. While Black/Africans, East Asians (Chinese etc) and Latin Americans are affected less.

Less hairy, less DHT. All NW1 old men seem to have low body hair, I know it's how sensible your follicles are but to me hair loss started when body hair in unwanted areas started so I've always associated one thing with the other.

Same here, I became a gorilla at 21 and hair loss seemed to get worse from then on. In fact I was more depressed about the body hair 8 years ago, needless to say I haven't been swimming since!

But then you have guys like Alec Baldwin, Luis Figo, Gianluigi Buffon, Robin Williams, who have extreme body hair but excellent heads of hair.

I seem to be the exception to every hairloss rule you guys come up with. Minimal body hair, maximal hairloss :D. I, for one, think that there's a lot more to hairloss than the magical abbreviation that is "DHT". Human body is still a mystery to our best scientists...

Yep. I see lots of young men that are even worse than me, but somehow that doesn't comfort me at all. I NEED hair to compensate for my other unfixable flaws.
