Has anyone used 0.5mg of finasteride effectively?

I've read a bit on the forums about how 0.5mg of propecia works almost effectively as the 1mg, while not creating anywhere near as many side effects.

Just wanted to know if anyone here has had any experience using just .5mg of finasteride and what they thought about it as a treatment. Did you lose anymore hair? Any regrowth? If you use Nizoral 2% twice weekly in addition to the lower dose finasteride, should you expect results?

I'm sure this is something other people are interested in, too. :punk:

Yes, for 11 years - worked very well. But now side effects are starting to get worse and I am considering going off Propecia altogether.

I've actually answered that question before in a separate thread when someone asked about it. Check my posts and I'm sure you'll find it.

You could have just answered it insted of letting me search through your posts, but whatever. You know it's hard to look for it like that because if you search for user's posts they mostly start up with a quote, however you do not see wether it's a quote or not.
search.php?st=0&sk=t&sd=d&author_id=19548&start=10

is it that one? doesn't really answer my question:
I don't want to go off topic here but I stopped all treatments fairly short after I stopped visiting these forums. Not due to it not working, it worked extremely well but due to other things.

I got a girlfriend who moved in, our relationship was and is very stable and since my hair looked great, I didn't think hair was too important. So after a while I dropped everything. Which means I lost most of my gains, I didn't mind it as much now as I did before but recently I started it up again. The main difference this time is that I am using RU instead of fins, mainly due to RU not getting as systemically absorbed and as I've pointed out, fins gave me quite some side effects. I could counter those with tamoxifen but I was a bit worried about the long term effects of tamoxifen so I'd rather just use something that isn't absorbed, at least not to any great extent.

It's too early to tell how well the RU is working but from my experience it seems paramount that the solution is fresh when applied.

Sure I could, however, I do not want to go off topic, nor do I want to answer the same questions several times.

in the time it took you to write 2 posts about not wanting to answer... you couldve answered it. and we've pretty much gone off topic, which kind of backfired, didnt it? :)

Wow, that's great. What did you combine with the finasteride in order to get your results? Ideally, if I ever go on finasteride I'd like to maintain what I have by taking 0.5mg and using Nizoral 2% twice a week. Great to hear that the lower doses actually work. :bravo:

I did use some finasteride topically as well though.

So despite using the lower dose you still suffered from side effects? What exactly did you experience? Gyno, ED, libido loss?

first,

I have a question you haven't already answered in your previous posts. How much dosage of the TOPICAL finasteride do you use each day?

I simply added half a pill to a minoxidil bottle. So 2.5 mg added, which equals to nearly the same amount I took internally per day.

Do you know something about side effects from topical finasteride? It shouldn't be the same as oral finasteride, since topical is not getting in to the bloodstream?

Im on .5, around 4 months? Its not got worse and at the moment i am telling myself things are getting better( glass half full). However i have also been on 5% min for 2 nearly 2 months so if there is any improvement it could be the min.

Oh and i am on 5% spironolactone at night! Nearly forgot that bit :)

Like you i am on .5 to help lower chance of sides, and hope the spironolactone will help in the fight.

I still get the same side effects from topical finasteride as I do oral, although a bit lesser.

Sorry i can't see your regimen, did you stop oral finasteride or still taking?
Not sure if you're talking to me but if you are, I'm not taking any finasteride due to the sides.

if you get the tingling itchy feeling in your scalp does that mean that the finasteride is not working?
