Re: HAS AVODART WORKED FOR ANYONE??????

Correct, I am doing REAL everything. Since Avodart is FDA approved for prostate, as long as you got insurance, it should only be a $15 copay for every 30 pills. However, I told my dermatolgist to double the dosage so that it's twice a day on the prescription, so now my refills are 60 pills and still only paying a $15 copay. I was doing 1mg of Avodart a day, but the shed was becoming so bad by the 4th and 5th month that I decided it is absolutely stupid to risk high dosages of a powerful drug like Avodart which hasn't even been approved for hair loss, so I cut back to just 1 pill a day last month (Jan 2008). And like I said, as of this month, I have resumed Propecia 1mg a day to go with Avodart because up until 3 weeks ago, my hair was still really thinned out looking, and I had to get back on propecia as a safeguard in case Avodart was nothing but bad news!

But seriously, my hair has returned to November 2007 levels over the past 3 weeks! The combination of propecia, avodart, and rogaine probably isn't necessary, because I really feel the avodart shed has ended, but I will stay on all three just to be safe. I expect to see my hair grow back to September 2007 levels (this date is when I stopped propecia after a year of being on it, and went on Avodart believing all the hype) over the next few months... So stay tuned!

I have found a casual picture of me from December 2007. If you look at my hairline, you can see in the front, at four months into Avodart, it had taken a chunk of space right out of the front of my hair, and also thinned it out all over....January 2008 got even worse....but I swear my hair today is visually thicker then that picture from December.

Avodart 0.5mg
Propecia 1mg
Rogaine Foam
Nioxin

I'm going to believe the Avodart shed has ended and that is the reason my hair is thickening back up, rather then believe the recent additions of propecia and rogaine is saving my hair against avodarts continued loss......if I don't suffer a big rogaine shed in the coming weeks (no shed yet, and I've been doing it 2 weeks now), then I know it's AVODART that has kicked in, reversed the shed, and is offsetting any rogaine shed that would be occuring right now if not for avodart firmly having been established in my system now for 6 months!

hey Stan, heres hoping the dutasteride is finally kicking in, if it is, i bet your in for some good thickening.

By the way, have you experienced any side effects at all worth noting from dutasteride? cleared skin/ dry skin, libido issues? or nothing?

I have not experienced a single side effect from Avodart, except shedding.

I have noticed extreme fatigue/exhaustion halfway through the day in the past week, now that I am back on Propecia again since 3 weeks ago. This was the side effect I noticed throughout the year I was on propecia before avodart.....along with testicular pain .

I can handle the side effects though, but to answer question, only propecia is giving me side effects. which means it may work better then avodart, who knows. or maybe it doesn't mean that at all....lets see if the rogaine foam causes a shed, if not, the avodart has kicked in and is preventing the shed.
