Has anyone switched from finasteride after a year or so of it not working? And has dutasteride worked for any finasteride non-responders? I have been using finasteride for 15 months and am considerly worse off from baseline. I am seriously considering Dutasteride. Also, where is the best place to get it online? Thanks

Try it! It works different and stronger!
My whole body skin feel different - but better. No longer dry like with finasteride. This is a sign that it works very much different.
It is another chemical.

I used finasteride for 10 months. I feel that it lost its effectiveness.

I'm on dutasteride and things couldn't be better. KNOCK ON WOOD.

Ive tried finasteride for 2 years with slight break to conclude if it works or not. I never had any change or effects.
I started dutasteride 2.5 months ago and did experence sexual slump to which as gone and im back to normal :D thank god. I have not notice growth but then i dont bother looking to hard as its not worth getting to wrapped up about checking until a visable difference. However it does feel slightly thicker and i seem to use less Toppik for coverage.
Its to early at this stage to say as i expect things to take 5 months as the hair cycle is 3 months plus the time for dutasteride to do its job.

I have used finasteride for 13 months with no results.
I am on dutasteride for 11 months with great results, it is absolutely the most effective treatment.

Dutasteride has worked best for me for the crown and middle in so much as it's stopped/slowed loss. I can say I'm pretty much the same as in my finasteride days. General diffuseness. Makes me wary of standing under bright lights for sure but not too bad if i keep it short.

Having said that, dutasteride's 'polarised' the type of hair in those regions; strong hairs remaining (or thickened), weaker hairs have gone or a few are still lost (see the thin faint hairs in the shower). So in a sense ever so slightly worse but with inconsequential change to aesthetics. Nothing really changed.

Front; hasn't worked. Recession and thinning of remaining peak of hair. By the end of the year I can guess I'll see a vast change from my baseline, even as recent as last year beginning dutasteride.

Having said that, the recessed regions *Were* already thinning under finasteride. So despite panicing about it, I think I can calmly say it's not dutasteride's fault.

Course, now casting about for possible additions to regimen as well as wondering about hair transplants. If Dutasteride keeps maintaining the middle/crown I might consider one in a year or so.

[To keep itching under control I've used Nizoral every other day]

Started genuine dutasteride on Feb 21.
Within three weeks my hair on the sides and the back (the non-male pattern baldness area) has thickened considerably. My barber told me today that my hair on those areas feels like a rug. No changes in the male pattern baldness area yet. I am hoping for better results in the male pattern baldness areas with dutasteride.
I was on finasteride for close to 15 months or so. Though it worked in reducing the hairloss, and helped me move from NW6 to NW5 with minoxidil, my hair on the sides never thickened so much.

Goingat20 - here is the pertinent section of an earlier post of mine, hope it helps:

For genuine Glaxo dutasteride the Swiss based Merlonipharma - http://www.merlonipharma.ch - are the cheapest I've found, with 90 capsules delivered to the UK for a mere 140 Euros.

But as I've said elsewhere on the site, they don't have an all-in-one ordering process. What you have to do is complete this form: http://www.merlonipharma.ch/sme_form_eng.php and they'll e-mail you a price. Unfortunately there's no secure section of their site to pay by credit card, just another form to fill in: http://www.merlonipharma.ch/cred%20card.pdf which can be e-mailed (safety?) or faxed back to them. I don't know if this is still an option, but in the past I have paid via a bank transfer - which is quite straightforward if you've got an online account that handles international transfers.

They've never asked me for one.
I will try it, too! Just filled out the form. I would preffer the banking transfer, too. Credit card information via Email? No.

how old are you dutasteride users? im thinking of going the generic route. i have temple recession and thinning in the norwood 5 pattern. I wish the top would be as thick as the back and i also need help in the temples, ideally of course...
