Hats Dont Cause Hairloss but...

They speed it up. For me anyways. I know everyone will think Im crazy but Ive tested this out for a month now. Everytime I wear a hat all day at work, I shed a LOT worse than if I dont. Everyday when I get home, I run my hands through my hair a few times to see if Im shedding. If I didnt wear a hat that day, I see 1 maybe 2 hairs at the most. If I did wear a hat that day, I see between 15-20 hairs. Ive done this time and time again, all different times of the week. This cant just be a coincidence. Any thoughts?

Easy explanation. When you wear your hat all day, the hair can't naturally fall out. It gets stuck in the mix. When you run your hands through your hair, all the hair stuck in your mop falls out giving the illusion of faster shedding.

Stingray is right. When you wear a hat, it keeps the hair from on your head because the hair falling out has no place to go. Now, when you don't wear a hat, the hair falling out can come off and go ......whereever............ and then when you run your hands through your hair you'll find very little since most of it has already come off thoughout the day, probably ending up on the ground. :)

I dont think so because when I do this its after my shower. (I shower as soon as I get home from work)

It is unrelated to the hat.

Ok you are correct. Have you tried different hats? Maybe you are allergic to your hat. Maybe it's the gnomes.

If you ask for information, don't debunk it as soon as 2 people tell you the EXACT same thing. And if you already "know" the answer, please don't ask the question.

What is with people on this forum lately? You tell them something useful and then they attack you. I guess everyone just wants to be right ALL OF THE TIME. Why bother posting here and asking questions if you "know" the answer already?

I was going to say the same thing, Tour, but not in reference to the person who posted this question. Doubt=treason in you guys' eyes.

i dont know about you but i cant seem to interpret any kind of attack from that sentence. as far as i see it hes just trying to clear out something. on the other hand...i believe you guys have been a bit too uptight and harsh on people lately. this "accept my opinion and shutup" attitude wont get you anywhere. go read neiltoms signature.

If a hat caused hairloss, you would not see the hairs affected by the hat fall until several months later. Telogen doesn't last a few hours.

So wearing your hat today, would cause increase shedding months from now. If you are able to increase/decrease fallout on a daily basis, then it's just a cosmetic effect, not a sign of variance in your male pattern baldness.

IF you really want to experiment with this, make it over a long term, like a month or two of wearing a hat and see if you have any long terms results, then go a couple of months without and see if your shedding has slowed.

Jesus f*****g Christ you're a prick. I didnt "know the answer" thats why I posted this topic you fucktard. I was just pointing out I dont think that was the reason because when I test the shedding its after I already take a shower. Try getting laid or something, maybe that will ease your tension problem.

I have been doing this for at least a month. My wife thinks it strange as well. Every single time Ive tried it, I had 15-20 more hairs come out the days I did wear a hat than the days I didnt. I find it hard to believe its just a coincidence, but the "Hair Gods" on this site have spoken, so I guess it is.

I have increased irritation after wearing a hat for several hours. I thought that this would worsen my loss too, but the argument about the hair follicles' telogen phase duration is solid enough.

This is a predictable question but are you sure that your hat is not on so tight it's restricting the blood flow?

This is the only way a hat could cause hairloss, or from what i was aware.

Yes, I am a prick. But the way you called me wrong after I answered the question you asked leads me to believe that you already know the answer. I apologize if you took offense to what I said, I didn't mean it like that. But if you ask a question that you don't know much about the actual physics of the subject, don't automatically disagree with the answer.

But don't rule out the gnomes.

Of course I ruled out your answer, the hairs stored under my hat all day wash out in the shower so those cant be the ones I see. I still dont know why I shed 150% more when I wear a hat than when I dont. After reading your post again, I must say I overreacted by calling you a prick and fucktard. For that I apologise.

Now that is good to hear  . I'm sure that it wasn't anything in the water, but I'm pretty sure that allot of us are just a bit tenser this time of year for some reason. Not sure but if you're from the States, could it be the fact that we are all questioning the validity of our presence in Iraq? I dunno. BTW THANK YOU TO ALL US SERVICE PEOPLE. I just am not too sure that our presence in Iraq is a wise move.

Most of us in the service feel the same way. But I make my money the only way I can right now... and unfortunately, Iraq is the place where the money is to be made in my near future.

And it's my pleasure to serve the country.
