I have been troubled with acne for about 8 years, and been on and off medications for it. currently on antibiotics and have been the past years.
Have anybody else had this same problem growing up and went on to male pattern baldness ?
I asked my dermatologist about it, and he though it could be a link to the skin´s sensitivity to male hormones

hello

I would also like to know more about that possible link...
In my opinion there IS a connection, since my hairloss started at about the same age as acne started to appear allover my body ;(
I am not taking anything to counter acne however, since propecia and regaine are doing great job and i don't want to risk it.

so is the propecia doing anything for your acne? My derm thought that maybe it would, but wouldn´t prescribe it as he claimed I´d come back to kill him when I would find out I had been chemically castrated. :gay:

It's hard to say if it is propecia that is causing more acne to appear, but it definitely isn't helping to "remove" them either :p
That chemically castrated term is exaggerating, i am sexually active and have no problems at all...

I had it pretty bad between the ages of 18 and about 22 but my hairline was still good then. I think the excess sebum made my hair oily and the hair thinner looking though - my scalp is still very oily - if I didn't shower every day I'm pretty sure after two days you could fry an egg on my head.

I'm very interested in studies of the link between sebum and male pattern baldness (also, google acne and DHT and there's plenty of results) but there is so many bald guys who never had a spot in their life I wonder if it is such a deal breaker in male pattern baldness.

I had acne from about 16-23 and then MBP started. I think they know acne
is hormonally related but I doubt it's directly related to male pattern baldness, but who knows.

Yeah my derm wasn´t sure about it either, he just suggested that MAYBE there was a link and we could beat them both with finasteride; if I wanted to risk sides. Again, they don´t even sell propecia here because it´s not approved (but you can apply to order it specially), so that´s why they´re so sceptical I guess...
