Have you increased your finasteride dose?

Curious if those that have been on finasteride for quite some time have had to increase their dose? I've been on 1.25mg/day for probably 4 years now and am loosing ground, so considering upping my dose a little.

If you have been doing well/above baseline for 4 years, then that is good! If you are losing ground after 4 years on finasteride, then I would get on dutasteride if i were you.

I had looked into that last year. If I remember, there were more risks/side effects involved with dutasteride?

After 7 years on finasteride, I'm starting to lose ground. I have switched to dutasteride about a week ago... fingers crossed it stops any further loss.

I'm the same, amazing results solely on 1mg Propecia for 7 years, now its totally lost its grip, and I'm battling to reverse recent losses with other add-ins (minoxidil, nizoral, Lazercomb) but have contemplated upping the finasteride dose or using dutasteride many times now. I really hoped the 1mg would work for a good 10-15 years!

So finasteride is really only a temporary solution? Hmm..

Increasing your dose of finasteride won't achieve much, because finasteride has an almost flat dose response curve for all doses above a threshold dose at which it will potently inhibit DHT. This threshold dose varies slightly between individuals, but around 0.2mg is the norm.

Your best bet is to switch to dutasteride. This will be much more likely to be effective at helping you to stop losing ground than messing around with different finasteride dosages. dutasteride is significantly more powerful than any dose of finasteride, and it is likely it will stop you losing any more ground if you give it a try.

to anyone who thinks upping dose wont do much... .5 did alot more for me than .25 did(i lost ground on .25), they are supposed to be similar in inhibition.. in this case anecdotal evidence is alot more reliable than studies.

You went from a fourth of the dosage to one half...the curve on DHT inhibition with finasteride doesn't level out until after 1 mg...if you were talking about going from 1mg to 3mg I would be inclined to agree with your anecdotal evidence

Isn't .25 only 10%less effective why am I seeing such a crazy difference with only 10% gap in efficacy

What are the most common dosing of dutasteride? I've been seeing some posts with people mixing finasteride and dutasteride as well.
