Head Tattoo: Could this be the answer?

Hey everyone, this is my first post so I'll sum up the basics:

I'm 24, started thinning at 17 when i was a freshman at WVU, life sucked, gut wrenching agony, wishing for death, joined the army, yada yada.

While I was in the army, i started shaving my head. I always thought it looked decent, as did most of the people around me. Thank Jebus I've got an alright shaped noggin. However, i wish i could have that 5 o'clock shadow look that most guys with HAIR have even just after shaving. In my eyes this could tide me over till the whole cloning revolution sweeps through the country emptying wallets and filling up heads.

Anywho.

Anyone here actually done this/seen it done/know someone/ and preferably have a picture? I've had a couple tattoos in the past, and so far as i can tell: this should actually work really well for my intended purpose.

I'm just starting a preventative program, which may be a bit late as I'm a Norwood 3/4 by now.

am I nuts? :hairy:

Thanks for the replies: guys.

Jason.

I would highly suggest you do not put scar tissue on your head. It seems to me that it would make regrowth by drugs almost impossible, as the follicles may not be able to penetrate the scars (I know I no longer grow beard in the area where my cheek is scarred) and surgery certainly wouldn't be any easier.

I don't think a head tatoo would work bro. It'll probably look pretty lame and if it doesn't work then what? you'll have a permanant smudge mark on your head. A Tatoo is not going to resemble a 5 o clock shadow in any way. I have a tattoo so I know what they look like on skin....no way dude, don't do it.

I've thought of that, but I have several other tattoos, and hair has no problem sprouting up through them.

Its not as if i want my whole head covered, just a bunch of dots to create an illusion, and reduce the shine factor.

Thanks for replying!
:D

Edit: I'm gonna contact some tattoo experts and get thier opinions. I'll keep you posted.

Edit 2: I've also stumbled accross the field of permanent cosmetics, which could be promising.

What about some kind of temporary dye like henna or something, I haven't looked into it but there might be a few things out there that would work as temporary tatoos? just guessing.

I'm researching that as well! I've just started to realize that there are quite a few solutions out there if your willing to think outside the box. All I want is to avoid the cancer patient look, which turns out isnt a big seller with the ladies.

Cheers!

I'll take" cancer patient look" over "guy trying to cover up the fact that he's bald by tattooing hair on his head look" anyday. Someone's going to notice

here's a trick

have you ever noticed how when a healthy/tanned bloke gets his head shaved right down he has a pale (un-tanned) area where his hair has blocked the sun.

well you too can have this I've got a tonne of hair but I just shave it anyhowâ„¢ look.

Go out and get yourself the highest SPF (sun protection factor) sun cream/barrier you can find, slap it on (pretty heavily) within your desired phantom hair area, you might want to stipple it out at the edges a little (I am selling a range of I've got a tonne of hair but I just shave it anyhow stippilling tooth brushes, PM me).

Now go to your local tanning salon or out in the sun and get cooked.

You should after a few sesions have the I've got a tonne of hair but I just shave it anyhow look, and it will stay with you for a while

Nope, just honest. It's kind of like when you notice a toupe. The only advantage there is the toupe is removable.
What if someone tattooed a goat tee on their face...Don't you think that would be obvious?
It's going to be the same on your head....BTW this has been brought upp quite a few times here (tattoo idea). The problem is it's too permanent.

Some people do regret getting their tattoos - especially where they cannot be hidden. I seriously know somebody who woke up one morning after a BIG night out and discovered he had a batman mask tattooed around his eyes!!!! This is a true story! no sh*t!

I guess my point is that you don't want to experiment with something that can potentially go wrong and cannot be hidden.

yeah pretty fucked up - although he's been going through a lot of laser removal sessions to get rid of the mask and they've been kinda hard on him.

A reminder for all of us before we go out and hit the town hard :) - (and oh, consider tattoos on our heads and faces.......)

Hmmm, permanent prothick / couvre ...

Theoretically, IF you matched the color perfectly AND had it distributed perfectly it could equal the effect of the above mentioned products without the need for reapplication.

However, as mentioned above, fixing an error could be difficult. I would expect the skin damage from the tattoo removal would far exceed the damage from the tattoo itself. Then you would be left with patchy alopecia plus your male pattern baldness.

Also, when your hair loss eventually progresses, the original tattoo pattern will no longer match your remaining hair. Then your screwed.

PS, If your hair color changes from sun bleaching or greying, the color will mismatch.

yes, this is a very real possibility, it is not as you would think as a major contrast tatoo in the scalp. it is called micropigmentation and it works very well when it is done RIGHT, it is a process where they choose from 100's of different pigments that are just SLIGHTLY different than your own skin color shooting for the color of your freashly shaven "horseshoe" area. although the process is very sublte, a little bit goes a long way. tey a google search for scalp micropigmentation, there are quite a few copanies doing it now, believe it or not quite a few celeberties have done this with sucess. i think it could look good if you are very sublte about it, use the right pigment for you, and dont give yourself a herman munster hair line :freaked2: from what i understand they dont even really give you a hair line, it is very smooth difference. where it helps out is the ring on the back of your head. so if you like the shaved head thing but hate the horseshoe pattern give it a try. but expect to pay $500-$1000.
