I just got a haircut and saw that my hair was extremely thin on top.... Ive had a really flaky scalp for a couple month and would always itch the from of my hair.... to the point where I would pull out hair.... is this male pattern baldness or is it because I would pull out my hair because of the dry scalp??

I don't have any history of hairloss and have always had very thick hair
*the last picture is right after a shower and my hair is very wet!

If you pulled the hair out yourself then it's probably Trichtillomania. I created a bald circle at the back of my head as a kid by pulling the hair out (it grew back) because the scalp was itchy.

It doesn't look bad, but you do have some thinning and recession. That's not designed to freak you out, lots of guys see a change in their hair going into their 20s. It doesn't mean you'll be a Norwood 7 by 22. I feel like some of the younger people on this forum see initial loss and think it's all gonna go in a matter of months. That's just anxiety talking.

Anyway, I've found that nizoral works wonders for an irritated scalp (actually just made a thread about it). I would say, first things first, start using that twice a week for your scalp. If you're worried that your hair loss will progress, get a script for propecia and count your lucky stars that you caught it early, as it has a good track record with maintaining hair.

Get on nizoral, then make an appointment with a derm. and ask him about propecia and about your current hair loss and scalp irritation.

I'd like to clarify that by recession, I mean just at the temples in a Norwood 1.5 sort of fashion. Nothing to freak out about. It happened to me at 17-18 and stayed that way. The thinning on top could very well be from your dry scalp.

Yes, you have some diffuse thinning on top. Start min 5% once daily+nizoral. I think this should work very well for you.
