hi im 22 years old.

my hair started thinning about a year ago and recently it has gotten very worse to the point where i have to wear a hat every time i walk outside my house. (picture was taken before i started using minoxidil)

i started using minoxidil about 2 months ago i haven't seen any result from it until now so i been reading around to see if there is anything better and more effective, i heard some really good and a few bad things about FINASTERIDE (Propecia and Proscar)

i have some questions.
should i go the doctor and get a prescription for it or should i just order it online?
can someone link me to a legit website where i can order some online i dont really like doctors and appointments.

and is it okay to keep using minoxidil while i take finasteride and which one should i get 1mg or 5mg

and finally is there anything esle i can add to this for better results or should i just try finasteride and minoxidil for a while and see how it goes

thanks alot

You want finasteride for sure. You'll only be taking 1mg a day or so. If you buy the 5 mg pills, you will cut them into 1/4ths so you are taking about 1.25 mg a day.

Definitely get on it ASAP. A lot of us haven't bothered to get a doctor's prescription either. The finasteride sold at inhousepharmacy.biz is 100% legit, takes about two weeks or so for delivery, though. Make sure to buy "FinPecia" for the 1mg pills, or buy "FinCar" for the 5mg pills that you'll split into 1/4ths.

Are you using minoxidil foam or liquid? Are you applying it right? I'm surprised you haven't seen any results at all, even if it is just a little.

How is your hairline doing? The vertex is looking pretty rough, but I think finasteride will help a lot on that.

And yes, you will definitely want to continue using minoxidil while you are on finasteride.

i am using minoxidil 5% liquid its almost done maybe another 5 days left in it. i ordered it online but i think i am just going to buy some rogaine(foam) from the local drug store from now on and my hairline is fine it has changed from how it used to be 2 years ago but it looks okay.

this is how i apply it and those are the same products i use every night.

man that website doest ship to my country for some reason :(
do u know any other sites that ship to canada?

i found this one
http://propecion.com/

but they only have generic propecia it says both versions of propecia (generic propecia and propecia) are 100% chemically identical. Your body will not know the difference between the two.

is that true?

Your body won't know the difference between generic and name-brand finasteride. Lots of websites won't ship drugs to Canada. I think customs stops a lot of them, which causes shipping delays and poor feedback.

Hey Johnn Doe,

Don't usually post anymore but figured I'd throw my 2 cents in, seeing as how you look like you're in the same spot as me, 10+ years ago. So, good news, I still have my hair. Wish I had gotten on here sooner too. I had about 2 years where people told me that it was just a cowlick, and I was too young to be balding. I went from where you are now to unmistakably thin, with the same off-the-center thin spots.

I had great luck with Propecia though. Stopped my hairloss in its tracks, gave me some regrowth. And it was simple. Throw the pill back and forget it. I'd suggest you consider the same. For whatever gains I got throwing minoxidil and all the other treatments at it, to try to get back to some "perfect", I lost in ease and quality of life, bad months due to sheds and changing regimes, etc.

Above the info posted above, I'd talk to your Doctor, see if you can get a script. That way, even if price is/becomes an issue (reminder: propecia goes off patent Fall 2013) and you go the import route with generics (also ok, and this board is a good resource for trusted sources), you have a relationship with your Doctor regarding hairloss. Also a good thing to have in your back pocket in case your import shipment is late, delayed, lost, etc. Sure it sucks to drop the big bill at Shoppers to get your measly 30 day supply, but it's a lot better than haggling with even the best and most reputable generics shipper over lost and delayed packages from Hong Kong etc.

For the record, my bro, who had the same hairloss as me but I caught it earlier on him, has amazing success with just popping the pill. He has no idea about these boards. Never had to go looking. And he was right about where you are. Improved a bit and is still is holding on just fine, 8+ years later. Other friends have had equal success with even lower doses of finasteride, as low as 3 pills/week. They basically found that by accident, being male and sloppy with any health-care regime. Again, they don't think at all about their hair anymore after a few years on finasteride.

Of course, lots of people come here looking for advice because they get sides from finasteride and/or no results. It's no panacea. And it can be bad too. But it's a decent place to start, IMHO. Just be aware of the selection bias online. Posters are usually new and looking for advice, or having problems and looking to change for more success/fewer sides. There's some great old and wizened vets who post too, of course, but unfortunately not much has changed in the last 5-8 years, or even 10 since dutasteride didn't turn out to be anything more special than finasteride, so there's really not much more than new anecdotes out there.

So, my own anecdote isn't worth more than just that, but I'd throw my suggestion in on the "set it and forget it" approach at your age. Whatever you choose though, don't spend too much time on the boards. Check back every 6 months or so, like when you take a pic of your progress, and that's it. Best of luck!

Hey hope that Doctor appt went well. But don't get down on yourself. You will get over it and it really can recede (no pun intended) into the background once you choose a treatment. Seriously your loss is really really limited already and I've seen just in my small friend circle (anecdote alert) great success. Even more expected from you since you caught it young and early. That's a bigger key to success than any amount of minute attention to a treatment schedule, IMHO. Again, there are a ton of people on these treatments that aren't represented on these message boards. I probably read here too much when I was your age...should have just popped my propecia and went about my day. You have less hairloss than my brother, and I still get ribbed at gatherings because "he got the good hair" in the family. If only they knew I saved all those follicles getting him on treatment early. And even me, who started later and have a little thin spot that is certainly noticeable as just that, a thinning area, was remarked on last weekend by a bunch of friends who haven't seen me in 4+ years as "totally no change." And that was the last 4 years of almost a decade on treatment. Stuff works. So less worrying, live life, and Good luck to you.

Hey honestly i think its absolutely the same, so means at least it didnt deteriorate at all. I have no experience with finasteride so i dont know how much time before it kicks in.

BTW i also live in canada and want to try finasteride. How much time they took to deliver?

it got stopped by customs 3 times then the 4th time the lady on the phone said they will send it out of england and then it arrived, if u want the website pm me.

Get on finasteride and off min. I know I'm not the only one who could hit myself over the head for taking minoxidil first.

Hard to tell whether you've lost more. Don't worry if you have, as it's most likely a shed that triggers healthier regrowth. It means it's working for you! Maybe use toppik or something if it's bothering you, but I don't think it looks too bad, the shorter cut definitely helps hide the loss.

Remember, finasteride needs a good amount of time before it can work properly - http://www.gourmetstylewellness.com/hair-loss-t ... /index.php
