Hi everyone need your help.. I suppose Ive been receding since I was 17/18 but its gotten worse now at 21 and becoming very noticeable. Its never got my depressed before but since its gotten worse I feel awful, so depressed and self concsious. My head is itchy alot especially the sides of the forehead. I have exzema/dermatitis on many parts of my body. I dont know whether the itchy head is connected to the hairloss????? Ive only scanned the forum today and dont understand any of the recommendations. Can somebody tell me what I should do? I was thinking of visiting a hair restoration clinic?? I also want to start Rogaine, can somebody explain how you use it?? Id prefer not to take any oral medicines as I dont want erection problems etc. I already take a steroid for acne but I plan to stop it, I dont know whether it has made my receding worse eiter, Ive been taking it about 3 years. :(
I will post pics if needs be. Im just receding at the front of the hairline but Im worried that the top/crown will begin balding soon. What makes my receding/thinning worse for me is that I have always had a long forehead/high hairline so its became very noticeable and just looks awful with my head shape.
Can somebody also tell me what the 'BIG 3 ARE'???

Sorry for the rambling and structure of my post.
Please move if its in the wrong section mods.

PLease don't feel desperate about things, there's lots you can do.

The big 3 are finasteride (a.k.a propecia), Minoxidil and Nizoral.

There's plenty in the forums about them to make up your own mind on whether or not they're suitable for you.

And good luck.

Thanks for your reply. Are Minoxidl and Nizoral tablets aswell??? Should I just try Rogaine first and see how I get on?? Or would I need more than just Rogaine to rewgrow?

Minoxidil is a topical treatment meaning you just slap it on your scalp it tends to be used twice a day, some people use a foam others use a dropper to apply it, as far as I'm aware it's available without prescription.

Nizoral is a shampoo. People tend to use it around twice a week leaving it on for 5 minutes.

Your best bet if you want regrowth is to use both Minoxidil and Finasteride.

Minoxidil is a growth agent , Finasteride should help you maintain want you have and might give you a little bit of regrowth.

Some people get sides from finasteride, so if you do go on it, listen to your body.

Cheers man, really appreciate the reply. When u say Minoxidl you mean the Rogaine stuff yeah?? Il try Finasteride if I notice no improvements from the minoxidl, but the side effects terrify me! :( Dont want my hair back with a limp dick. :(

Only 3% get sides from finasteride. There are millions of men taking this drug.

i'd say definately use nizoral shampoo, for ur itch, and for dermititis. use 2% 2 times a wk. acne med could definately be a cause factor.

Thats great that it helps for dermatitis too. Since Ive started this thread my head hasnt been nearly as itchy, the stress must make it a lot worse :( Its a big relief having this forum and knowing theres hope! :bravo:
When you say 2% twice a week what exactly do you mean? How do you know how much is 2%?
The acne med I have is called Lymecycline.. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lymecycline)
Reading about it, it has no known side effects, and I havent noticed any either. I will reduce it to every 2nd day.
Do you need prescription for Nizoral?
Thanks again for the replies lads. :bravo:

because its either called nizoral 1%, or nizoral 2%. Its in the name.
and it refers to 2% ketoconazole.

it addresses one of the primary contributing factors (in some ppl), which is fungi. U can also use tea tree oil, or grapefruit seed extract etc. theres lots of chemical and natural anti-fungals.

u want to address as many contributing factors as possible, even if they are not an issue, ur better off covering them to be sure.

Finasteride (propecia or proscar- split the proscar into quarters), minoxidil (rogaine, regaine/recrea in europe) and nizoral (fungoral in the UK i think). These three will stop your shedding and probably regrow some of your hair.

PLEASE CONFIRM WITH A DOCTOR WHETHER OR NOT YOU ACTUALLY HAVE DERMATITIS: for agressive, active dermatitis topical nizoral is not enough, you need prescription strength steroids and a good medical follow up. Seborrhoeic Dermatitis can cause hair loss by itself, but most doctors agree that this hair loss (often presented as a telogen effluvium) is only temporary. Some researchers, on the other hand, claim that if the condition goes untreated for a long time, permanent destruction of the follicles DO take place.

Ive had dermatitis/exzema for years. I do not take any oral meds nor do I want to(I take enough), I dont think its severe enough either for steroids. I use a moisturizer and apply oitment and cream also. I do not use ointment on my hair or face, I use moisturizer. I have noticed my hair is a lot less itchy the last few days since I stopped using Brylcream Extreme hold gel(which has a lot of alcohol in it). By the way is gel bad for your hair as in can it cause receding/thinning?
So if I pick up some minoxidl in the form of Rogaine/Regaine is that ok? Still a tad confused about all the names, as I said I only went about researching this a week ago so Im still learning. Do you need Nizoral on prescription? Should I book an appoitment in my nearest hair restoration clinic and see what they have to say? Or are they too expensive? Or should I just start on the finasteride and Rogaine? :innocent: Could I get these on prescription? I have a medical card so it would be great to get them for free :agree:
Sorry for all the questions, hope some of you can answer them.
Been great so far cheers!! :bravo:

In my usual Hoppi-esque style, do you have any digestion issues? IBS, pains, etc? Sounds random when you are talking about skin problems, but digestion can be at the centre of nearly anything.

Chances are the skin problems are connected - it's probably inflammation/autoimmune... there are a few possibilities :)

But yeah, ofc there are treatments for hair loss that work, but I'm wondering if we can pinpoint the reason your hair is struggling as well as your skin, etc.

No digestion problems at all. Ive had exzema since I was a kid so it mightened be linked...but yeah, the scratching isnt doing the hair follicles any good, I try not to scratch but find I scratch in my sleep and when I wake up(probably when I shred hairs?). I picked up Nizoral today anyway should help with the itch! :)

How you doing for body hair? lol Is there not much of it?

Because yeah it's proooobably inflammation....

I think male pattern baldness tends to be hormones, inflammation, or sebum. Usually hormones, but the other two tend to lift their ugly heads as triggers from time to time too!

LoL Ive really really hairy legs, normal body hair and under arm hair.. Tbh I just think Im receding because of genetics and the itch probably has something to do with it or it certainly isnt helping.

Hey Receding89, I have a similar problem to you. Ive had Dermatitis for about 3 to 4 years now. I have dry lumps of skin on my scalp and ive lost hair around my temples over the years from picking it out.

I was just wondering if you went on rogaine and if its had any effects so far? I was thinking of trying it but I dont know if it would be of any use since my hair follicles may be too badly damaged .

No mate I havent tried it yet, once I get the funds Im gona get 6 months supply. Still a bit unsure what exact type Im gona get though... Ive tried Nizoral shampoo/fungus over last few days and my hair feels great after using it, pop abit of moisturizer on the parts that are itchy too(I assume a bit of moisturizer is ok on your scalp?). You mightened have permanently damaged the hair follicle, if I had of known you can damage the hair follicle permanently from scratching Id have never scratched my head! :(
Anyway its a worth a go imo..60 quid tub that lasts 3 months with the chance of regrowing your hair or at least maintaining what you got...its worth it!

Thanks for the reply man .

I know what you mean about scratching . Its impossible not to ! The nizoral though I find great for relieving itchiness. Im also about to start using t-gel. I hear thats good for loosening the dry skin on the scalp.

Once I have my Dermatitis reasonably under control, then I might try Rogaine/Finasteride to see if I can regrow some hair.

All the best with your regimen. I hope things work out. Keep posting here with updates on how your doing.

Just another quick question... From years of gel on my fringe and sorta spiking it/styling it to 1 side I have a natural curl in it and when its not styled its curled and goes to 1 side. Makes my receding hairline look even worse... I was thinking of trying a hair straightner on it to try and force it staright again... It wouldnt damage my hair follicles or cause further receding or anything would it?? :(
