Foam is easier to apply and dries quicker. I'd go with that.

Also, I know you say that you're afraid of finasteride...but the likelihood that you'll get sides is pretty small. finasteride is the only FDA approved drug to regrow your hair, and the sooner you start it the better you chances are.

Remember, it's 100x easier to MAINTAIN your hair than it is to regrow it.

Yeah, Im gona take the plunge.. A good point I read was that I should start on Finasteride before Rogaine, if Im taking both I dont know which one is actually preventing the hairloss and if I stop one to find out I may lose gains, if I dont notice much improvement on finasteride I could try Rogaine with it after say 6 months?? I really hope I can grow some back, Ive only been receding the last 2 or so yrs and after recently looking at pictures of myself when I was 16, tbh Ive always had a highish hairline so my receding mightened be as bad as first thought.

Is there anywhere to get Finasteride without prescription online?? Or could I just go to my nearest hair restoration clinic and ask for it? I really dont fancy booking an appointment or anything as its quite expensive and I already know whats happening to my hairline.

Hi,

As someone who started losing his hair or should I say thinning and receding from around 23/24 I can see where your coming from.

Let me give you some help here:

1. You are of course way to young to consider an hair transplant as we don't know how much more you will recede and to how much extent.

The no.1 thing that saved my hair was acting fast and focusing on PREVENTION, i.e your hair loss will only get worse from now on. Meaning that as every day and every year goes by more and more hairs will miniaturize and start to lose density and eventually fall out through the effects of DHT attacking the hair follicles.

The Best thing you can do is to save what ever hair you have left as early as possible if you choose to go on the journey of saving your hair for the foreseeable future like the rest of us you will be on a long, long journey for decades think about that.

Meaning the more you save now the more you will have in a 1 year and or 5 years from now.

You need to act today and get going with the big 3 don't piss around thinking that minoxidil will work and then if doesn't then go with finasteride or vice versa you need everything right now as all of the big 3 work in different ways.

Since you have an itchy scalp your better of going with the foam, it gives way less irritation vs the solution and also it thickens the hair up as well a nice bonus, I often use that alone for hair styling

go here for super cheap rogaine foam: http://www.minoxidil-direct.co.uk/Rogaine_Foam.htm
- don't know why the site name is not showing up?? should be minoxdil direct try googling it)

if you were to buy it from boots they would set you back about £30+ for one months supply!

2. Get on board finesteride asap, this stopped my hairs falling out onto my pillow within a few months and has def now stabilized my loss and also slowly started bring in crown area, with finesteride its important to set the expectation of no more loss rather than regrowth, think of that as a bonus if it does and will mainly hold on to the crown and mind scalp at best.

You can't really get finasteride without a prescription a great resource is http://ukfinasteride.info/prescriptions/ run by Dr Singh who is a UK based Gp that has a good 10 years or so of hair loss medication treatment. You have to fill in an online prescription, register as a patient and you can then qualify for medication. He turns it around super quick like within a few days of you sending money through an excellent service.

With regards to side effects I can help you there as well, I initially had the sexual side effects, in the way of not so much erection loss but I had massive decreased ejaculate and also did not feel like having sex at all,and had anorgasmia i.e no orgasm. I sacked of finasteride for several months to save my relationship! and get back to normal, then I tried it again but this time I tapered my dose in gradually going from 1 tablet a week upto 1 tablet every day over 7 weeks, this had ZERO side effects and I have never been so horny! So that is def what I recommend if you start on the meds.

As with any medication especially when dealing with hormones if you shut that down or inhibit it in one hit from ay one the body will respond possibly with a higher side effect profile than normal, if you taper it in slowly you allow the body to get accustomed to the inhibition much more softly.

3. Get on board nizoral 2% twice a week no more.

Now the meds will possibly give you a big shed, which will scare the sh*t out of you and possibly make you want to stop what you just started, this is NORMAL and it shows that meds are working, stick through he meds and hold your faith and give everything a good 12 months and re-evaluate before deciding if it is working or not.

Remember when you start this journey, if this sh*t does work for you will be anally fixated with your routine, meds, lotions etc for the rest of your life, so you really have nothing to lose to give all three a shot now whilst you still have some hair left.

You will only regret what you DIDN't do. Don't piss about with should I or shouldn't I with the three treatments hit them all at once and you will do the best to hold on to what you have left. If the treatments stabilize your loss for the next several years and you can get to 30 , you can then think about a hair transplant to complete the picture.

your total cost for 1 year of doing this is approx:

£ 160 in regaine foam
£ 99 in generic finasteride
£ 20-30 in nizoral shampoo

Total cost = call it £300 a year every year.

Remember you need to save what you have now not later as by next month or next year you will have lost some more hairs to DHT and when they are gone, they are gone.

GET ON BOARD NOW and give yourself a chance

Thanks man, great post, really appreciate it. Everything I need to know there. :bravo:

Would a GP prescribe Finasteride for me or would I need to go to a hair clinic??? I mentioned it to him the last time I was there and he never said yes or no he just gave me an appointment for a specialist who deals with hormones because I have estrogen on my nipples also and my nipples are a bit pointy like a womans lol. Ive had this since I was around 16, I dont know if its connected to the hairloss or not but its fairly common for people to get it in puberty but mine havent gone away. :( Anyway my appointment isnt till August but I really wana start the finasteride.

This additional info is a game changer in my opinion.

Personally i'd hold off the finasteride for a bit, sounds like your doctors doing the right thing by sending you to a hormone specialist.

I'd check out what causes gynecomastia, and finasterides relationship to estrogen.

I'm pretty much sure that finasteride increases estrogen, and estrogen can cause gynecomastia.

A side effect of propecia is gynocomastia.

Check out finfighters sig for alternatives.

In answer to another question you had, finasteride is a private prescription so whilst your GP can write it out, the NHS won't pay for it, so i'm guessing a medical card won't help.

I've been taking Finasteride from them for the last 3 years. My hair loss went from 200 hairs a day to about 25, so I know it wasn't just a sugar pill or something like that. They have online support for questions, and they told me this: "We have more than one supplier for the same medication and we ship out according to the availability of the stock. We carry generic Propecia manufactured by GenPharma, Sunrise, Cipla and Intas Lab Pvt."

If you're worried about budget, then I would suggest going for 90 1mg caps first. If you don't have a problem with sides then make your next order the 5mg caps and you can quarter them (1.25mg) to save some money.

2 money saving tips if you go there...
1: Let's say you want 90 caps. Add the 30 caps to your cart instead. It will take you to a checkout page, but it will also give you a chance to upgrade your order to 90 pills for $7 cheaper. Same goes for if you want to get 360, add 180 to your cart first

2: Use the promo code Q52EM37T during checkout for another 10% off. That's my promo code that I got for being a return customer, so feel free to use it :)

I'm in a similar position to you except no dermatitis (well, i get it on my hands ever since i had scabies last year) im 20 and its noticeable on windy days when the wind sweeps my hair revealing my receded temples :/ ugh.

You might want to try alpecin shampoo aswell as nizoral shampoo and just rotate them, I plan to use each twice a week. I'm not going to bother using rogaine yet, I'm going to stick with alpecin, nizoral and if it improves I will stick to those 3. If there is any further thinning I will start on finasteride & rogaine

I went to my GP today and she said its not possible to write prescriptions in general practice for finasteride in the UK and that you'd have to see a specialist (trichomerist?), privately which would cost a lot i'd imagine. So online pharmacies is your best bet. Even if you did see a specialist and got a prescription for it though you'd still have to pay a rip off price for the finasteride. It's not covered by the NHS.

Thanks again for the help and thanks very much for the offer Rawtashk! :bravo:
Im not actually in the UK Im in Ireland(the Republic that is :) ), still dont think I would get it on a medical card though.
How do you mean a gamechanger sirchugalot?? I dont think the finasteride would effect my nipples really, its just something from puberty that hasnt gone anyway, puberty can last till early twenties so theres still a chance it could go away naturally. Anyway, I dont think I have estrogen problems as such, I have almost freakishly hairy legs which would suggest plenty of testosterone?? :woot:

In one of your posts you state "I have estrogen on my nipples", i interpreted that to be you paraphrasing your doctor, suggesting you have high estrogen levels. Would you be able to elaborate on this?

finasteride is most likely going to increase your levels of estrogen, and there's a good chance that will make gynecomastia worse, were you aware that gynecomastia is a listed and commonly reported side effect of finasteride?

Your wookie like legs will be caused by DHT, and i think there's a link an inverse correlation between estrogen and dht but I don't know, that's why i think it's certainly worth you doing some further research on the issue or wait till you see an endocrinologist.

Just an opinion mind.

@Receding89 As far as I know you need a visa card to buy from that site so that could be the problem.
Also make sure they ship to Ireland because some of those online pharmacies dont ship here.
Im in Ireland too and im trying to find a pharmacy that ships here , I havent found one so far :shakehead:

I have a visa card but it wouldnt let me put in my area code so it wouldnt let me finish the transaction. :(
Anyway my rogaine foam arrived today. Going to give it a go for a full year, if I dont see any improvement or if I continue to recede, Im going to take the finasteride/propecia tablet. I know someone said I should really start on both but, Im only 21, my receding is not that severe, Ive been taking a tablet thats great for hair growth and Ive a good diet and exercise regularly so Ive a healthy enough lifestyle. The rogaine should hopefully improve things. Id really like to hold off taking the tablet for as long as possible, but as the years go on Im sure its going to get worse so Il definetly go on it eventually and Il take it till I die to keep my hair lol.
Ive read that it hasnt been proved that Rogaine helps a receding hairline. :( Ive read though in some cases it does work so thats good enough for me, its supposed to make hair grow in other places too so why not your hairline??

Anyway Ive nothing to lose pardon the pun so its worth a go. Il update yous on how it goes. :)

Who do you guys think of Procerin tablet for prevention of hair loss?? Im really terrified of taking Propecia after reading and hearing so many horror stories Id rather not take it, probably ever. But some research tells me, Procerin doesnt have any sexual side effects, its a DHT blocker aswell but its all natural herbs and vitamins, doesnt need prescription, and its cheaper. :bravo:
How come I have only heard of this now?? Has anybody tried it and what do you think?
Cheers :)

With the heat my foam has become very runny! :( Does it become useless or any less effective now and should I keep it in the fridge to keep it foamy??

The foam does that. I either put it in the freezer for about 30 seconds, or I lay it on its side in the bathroom sink and run a small stream of cold water on it for a minute or so. It firms up either way.

Receding89 wats up glad to here your starting on Rogaine. I know you probably dont want to here it but Propecia or some kind of DHT blocker is really essential if you want to fight hairloss. If you dont you will eventually lose any gains you make from the rogaine. You could try weaning on the propecia to reduce the risk of sides, ie. 1 tablet one week, two the next three the next etc. or if your really worried about sides you could try this RU58841 stuff viewtopic.php?f=23&t=63049&hilit=enden . Its a topical treatment so you dont get the sides from propecia but not alot of people have had sucess from it yet.

Anyway hope you found that helpful, Goodluck with your treatments keep us updated on here :woot:

THFC2011 thanks for that man! Yeah I really dont wana take Propecia because of the obvious side effects, besides its really expensive.
Im thinking of trying Procerin, or even just taking a high dose of Saw Palmetto, which is what is mainly in Procerin anyway and its a proven DHT blocker.
I think Il go for Saw Palmetto for a year or so, if Ive no improvements, Il then try the Procerin.
I think it makes sense to try the stuff that is the cheapest and safest to use first, it could work and if it does great, if it doesnt at least I know its useless and I can go onto the stronger stuff. As I said there is no real panick, Im not going bald on the crown(thank god) and I think I can keep the receding under control for a few years if I use the rogaine and take care of my hair.
My Dad still has a fair amount of hair at 58 but I think my Mams Father receded early. Is it true you get it from your Mothers side????
