HELP! a*** & Penis itching on Propecia WTF! [updated]

New user to the forum here, I search for about 20 minutes and found nothing like this reported. I've been on Propecia for about 3 weeks, and starting yesterday, I noticed both my anus and penis have been itching me. It's bizzare. I have no other side effects (thank god) but last night it got so bad that I woke up at 5AM and had to put on hydrocortisone to kill the itching. I don't have any rashes or pain.

I have my 3 month follow up appointment with my dermatologist in 2 months, but I'd love to find out more about this before telling him.

Has anyone experienced or heard of this before?

I thought that at too 1st. I've only been with 1 girl in the past year (always used a condom) and I know she gets checked out reguarly. I know that doesn't rule out the STD option, just thought I'd point it out.

Cooincidently enough, I went for a physical for the 1st time in 3.5 years last week (before I experienced this) and while they were taking blood I asked them to do STD checks just for peace of mind. He said they'll check for HIV and VDRL. I should get the results soon.

The problem with crabs, if it is crabs, is that it can be transmitted regardless of wearing a condom. You can get that sh*t from a toilet seat or sheets. Crabs are like lice for down under. You should see you Doctor though to make sure. Doesn't sound very good.

Still doubt it's crabs, it doesn't itch at all by my hair - it's mostly around the head (...not the one on my neck)

sounds more like jock itch......Doesn't sound finasteride related at all.

Finasteride is meant to be taken orally.

It's not a suppository.

Sorry, couldn't resist that one. I really think that your itchy ringpiece and c*** are not related to taking finasteride.

Something I've noticed is that people quite often blame any ailment they incur whilst in the first few months of taking finasteride, on finasteride.

I expect the majority of us on this board have experienced embarrassing itch problems at some point in their adult life, yours has just happened to coincide with taking finasteride.

If symptoms persist go see your GP.

My first take is that it might be some sort of yeast, i.e. jock itch.

Or, perhaps you've developed some sort of allergic reaction to the lube the girlfriend is using on the strap-on?

Ridiculous post.

'Chimp' does indeed seem an apt name.

Try this.

GET YOUR HAND OFF OF YOUR DICK, THEN IT WON'T ITCH.

I think that was a bit harsh, he's only been taking finasteride for 3 weeks and your being a prick to him.

Just to clarify my posting, my first response suggesting that it was yeast (i.e. 'jock itch') was my honest attempt to help.

The second comment was purely humor, and not intended to offend. I thought it was an outrageous enough statement that nobody would actually take it seriously.

I do think that you should bring this to the attention of a doctor, however.

I know, and I thought so, but given that he is new here I just wanted to take the time and make sure he knows that he is welcome, despite the fact that often we joke around a lot here.

^^^ How constructive.

Stop being ridiculous (at best). There is no construction needed.

Finasteride doesnt cause an itchy penis.

End of story.

I think a bit of banter and joking is good it makes me want to post here more.

Insulting people is pointless and pretty cowardly from behind a computer.

I take the piss a bit sometimes but trust me I will not post anything on this board that I wouldn't say to someone in person.

Now kiss me you fool.xxxxx

Don't worry 'bout the joking guys, I know it's all in good fun. Hell, the symptoms are a bit nutty!

In any event, I heard from my Dr. today that all HIV/VDRL tests came back negative. The itching has subsided a LOT since yesterday, I barely notice it at all, and it seems like it's almost gone. I haven't even had to apply the hydrocortizone since I showered this morning.

Who knows, maybe my body reacted to something (allergy/chemical/food?). Whoever said that people tend to blame every symptom they have on new medication is right, why wouldn't I? With so many various side effects, I'm actively on the lookout for things that are out of the norm.

Thanks for the feedback, best of luck to you all.

Gunner, you of all people should not be attacking people. Maybe if you were more upbeat and personable you wouldn't be in the anti-social predicament you're in. Just a thought.

When I first saw this thread, the first thing I thought of was The Gardener's response if he saw this.

Thank you

Anyway, chimp5, you may have an STD or you are having an allergic reaction to your laundry detergent or your soap?
