Hey guys,

I’m very much a newbie here, and really just looking for some help advice and support :)

Just to set the scene, basically when I was about 18 (I’m 20 now) I started feeling this strange itch on the top and crown of my head, scratched away and low and behold was pretty freaked to remove a dead follicle from my scalp. This has been going on, admittedly in phases, pretty much ever since. At first I denied my hair was going, but I’ve realised that I’ve really gotta do something about it now before it’s too late.

I’m at a point right now where maintenance, with minor regrowth, would have a huge impact on my life. My hair has thinned but not to the point where it is hugely noticeable except by me or anyone that sees me straight out of the shower! My hairline, except on the temples, is pretty much where it’s always been, but on top my hair is a lot thinner.

I’ve been researching tentatively for about a few months now and lurking on here for the last few weeks, in the past I’ve only found all these bullish websites promising miracle cures but it’s only here I’ve found what I hope will offer a genuine bit of hope.

Basically, I’ve pretty much decided I’ll go with a Propecia and Nizoral regimen, but I was just wondering if anyone would take the time to have a look at some pics I’ve taken and offer any advice. I’m pretty freaked about the idea of shedding but I’ve heard a lot of conflicting stories regarding Propecia and shedding, so I’m a little unsure what to expect.

Also, I’ve heard a lot of people supplementing their regimens with particular additions to their diet, such as vitamins or herbal supplements (such as green tea) I wasn’t sure whether it would be wise to include any of these seeing as I’m just starting out?

My main goal is to keep the hair I have, any regrowth will be a huge bonus, I’m willing to give it the time and patience it’ll take to make it work, I just hope to god it does!

If anyone has a similar problem but is a little bit further in their treatment and wouldn’t mind guiding me through the early stages I’d be very appreciative.

Thanks for your time :)

p.s. will stick some pics up as soon as i can find somewhere to host them

If your concerned go see a Doctor. they'll more than likely tell you to get on propecia since you still have a headfull.

then it's the waiting game.. takes 3 months usually for propecia to start helping with hair loss..

oh.. propecia = a pill you take every day that prevents male pattern baldness. if you didnt know..
overall it's safe, effective and is the easiest way to maintain hair.

rasp,

Your hair is in good shape and a regimen of finasteride and nizoral is just what you need. I think you will be fine. Really.

Ditto what the others said, that will be fine for now and should totally halt your loss.

In future you can add other things if you start losing again.

WOW. My hair is in almost exactly the same shape although (unfortunately), a little more progressed. What I did was jump on the rogaine and propecia bandwagon (and I take a multivitamin, but I don't really relate that to my hairloss regiment) - was that a good or bad idea guys? i mean, I know it wasn't "bad" but my point is you are saying this guy (in this thread) is good to go with propecia and nizoral, but nobody mentions regrowth, seems you guys are saying he will maintain (which is admittedly fine with the amount of hair he has).

so my question, for his benefit and my knowledge, with his hair amount would bumping rogaine into his regiment increase his chances to actually *regrow* and fill in those gaps seen in the flash-photos?

His hair is not a cosmetic disaster and those follicles are surely active. Finasteride alone could thicken those. He can give it a year or so and then add minoxidil to the mix.
