Chin pardon my french but why would you f*** around with some online sh*t when you can go to your Doctor and get the real scoop on your hair and a script for the real deal Propecia at $60/mo. I personally dont trust online sh*t because it is not regulated by anyone and everyone is out to make a buck in this business. The stuff you are buying probably isn't legit or it is cut with inferior fillers and binders. To be sure that you are using the real deal you must get it from a Pharmacy in your area. I made this decision when I got on it because then if it does not work for me I will have no doubts in my mind, you however will be constantly asking yourself if your Finasteride was legit.

As I said I know plenty of black market steroid dealers who cut their product with crazy stuff and then sell it. If the guys who bought it only knew what was in it.

At your age your best bet is Propecia, it is ok for a person your age to start. You want to prevent any hair from falling out and propecia does this nicely. Your young so your hair is still growing fast so you might not need minoxidil just yet. Once you loose your hair its very hard to get it back-Moral is to not loose it or do what ever it takes to keep it.

I checked out that website http://www.inhousepharmacy.com for proscar also.
It was around $100 for 30 pills, Is that a good price for proscar compared to other websites?
Proscar is 5mg of finasteride, so in order to get 1mg which is in propecia, you would have to split it into fifths. Is that easy to do?
I guess you could split it into fourths, but I don't know if I want to take more than 1 mg. What effects could taking 1.25 mg have?
Any help would be appreciated.

I get it for $72 from my Doctor. But if you don't have health insurance I suppose only spending an extra $28 isn't so bad at all.

I do agree about ordering online, but at the moment, i dont have a normal "doctor" and no insurance :(, this means 100$+ for teh doctor visit and upwards of 50$ a month for propecia. i know its the real deal because at least its MADE BY MERCK, not generic, etc. i got a 15 tab for 48$ shipped, which should last two months+, i got the smallest order possible so i can make sure i have no adverse effects and then hopefully try and get some from a pharmacy. thanks tho...and i think about 90% of this forum and most hairloss sites, the guys order it online.

Thats true but not advisable from my stand point, the extra $30 per month I spend is worth it for piece of mind for me.

Sounds like you are on the right track though, good luck.

I don't think it has to do with age, rather how soon you start treatment from the time you start losing your hair.
I've always heard that propecia can help to regrow some hair, especially hair that you've most recently lost (like within the past year or two, and I've even heard a doctor say up to five years). I'm hoping that this is the case because all I'm looking for is a small amount of regrowth/thickness in the front. That's why I decided to go with propecia and not minoxidil, to maintain what I have and hopefully get a small amount of regrowth. I'm 22 and only began thinning in the front when I was 20/21, so hopefully i'll see some good results. I've been on propecia for about 7 1/2 months, I think my loss has slowed but I hope to see improvement in the next few months.

thats good, gives me a bit of hope. started losing about 1 year ago, more significantly in last 3 or 4 months, so if i could regrow that significant amount on propecia thatd b great. what im wondering is if i should start on minoxidil too, bcos i dont want to miss out on the chance to regrow that recent loss.

I'm into week 7 of Finasteride, I've noticed a slow down of hairloss by the pull test( not scientific I know, but I've noithing else for it ).My hairloss started at the crown 3 years ago and over the last 6-9 months have been receeding at the frount aswell. Why is it that the hair at the front just falls straight out and is so hard to regrow. Is there any particular reason why the frontal hair is so hard to regrow

I think its because the frontal hair follicles are adversely affected by a lower level of DHT than those in other areas of your scalp, so finasteride may not reduce DHT enough for the front.

I was also wondering the exact same thing youngguy. But I decided to give propecia a year and see what it can do on its on (along with nizoral 1%). I figured there's no reason to mess around with minoxidil applications if propecia can give me the small amount of improvement i'm looking for.
I'm pretty sure it's this site that tells you the minoxidil/propecia combo is better for people in later stages of hairloss looking for serious regrowth, and propecia is better for those looking to maintain with a small amount of regrowth. So after a year I'll see what kind of results I have then decide whether to add/switch to minoxidil.

that is pretty much exactly what im gonna do. my proscar shipped today, so in 7-14 days when it arrives i can start! hopefully its not too hard to cut and what not....as long as it STOPS my loss and maybe thickens up the front i'll be very happy. i still have some fine/baby hairs on my temples, maybe it can revive them? i pray anyway.

interesting..i never knew propecia didnt work as well near the front. can neone recommend a shampoo to use that could help lower dht/regrow at the front? a lot of people use shampoos (some quite cheap) i hear to lower dht levels even further. which is the best shampoo to use for this and what r the prices?

thanks!

I wouldn't recommend finasteride at your age... hate to say it...

I'm 19 and started finasteride 4 months ago. I've had a persistent reduction in libido ever since. I also noticed some thicker, longer hairs growing at my hairline (which is where my problem is) but I attribute this entirely to the 5% minoxidil and folligen I started at about the same time, and possibly aided by the Nizoral 2% i started about a year ago.

I'm planning on stopping finasteride and starting on 5% Xandrox. It inhibits DHT in the scalp the same amount (it has a slight edge according to Dr. Lee) but does not have the systemic side effects. It's got minoxidil in it so it's really convenient. Minoxidil does not take long to apply at all. Takes me about a minute total. Then I wait for it to dry and slap on some mousse. Flaking only happens when you put too much on one spot and your skin can't absorb it, it'll leave a white flake when it dries. Spread it around with your fingers. If you shampoo, condition and style your hair, the extra minute to actually keep that hair is well worth it, doncha think?

I really think the age limit for Propecia should be 25 and up. I think that Merck is not legally required to put anything higher than 18 though, so to maximize sales they leave it at that.

At our age, 18-24, hormones are still very active and Dr. Lee states that up to 20% of men experience some kind of sexual dysfunction with this drug. I believe him, and at our tender young age you really don't want to make Mr. Happy sad. Especially when there are other convenient alternatives.

Just my two pennies

Hormones are active ... at any age. If anything, you might experience lower side effects if you take them in your early 20s because it is during this age that you have the most amount of testosterone, DHT, and least amount of estrogens floating in your system.

I am willing to wager that if you took finasteride a few years down the road, you'd have the exact same sexual problems, if not worst.

surely propecia is worth a shot? if there r side-effects they go away when stopping use right? and if its only 20% of men thats not too bad.

thing is, with xandrox and things like that, if it contains minoxidil u cant stop or ull get severe shedding..and its hard to keep up for say 5-10 years bcos u have to apply it and wait for it to dry. also i heard stopping minoxidil can cause extra loss, and the loss is more dramatic than stopping propecia.
