hey guys.. question about switching from dutasteride to finasteride

hey guys.

i've been on dutasteride (advodart) for about a year now with great results. recently, i've been starting to experiance a couple of the annoying side effects (loss of libido and i'm feeling some gyno develop). i was thinking about giving finasteride a shot since i keep hearing that dutasteride is more likely to give you gyno and it seems to feel like it. my question is, if i switch to finasteride from dutasteride, will i be losing the progress i've made on dutasteride? dutasteride has certainly slowed down my hairloss and it would be unfortunate if i switched and it just went all downhill again

Well I would of advised ya in the early days of your treatment to go on finasteride, but since your on dutasteride I would try to ride it out. You may just have puffy nipples which I have had on and off with finasteride, so I am not sure if the switch will make a difference. dutasteride blocks more dht then finasteride so you may have a shed if you do switch.

The side effects of Dutasteride/dutasteride/Avodart seem only to last for around a month.
The libido comes back as does the erectile issues however, the long term effect in some men can be a reduction in seamen production and a sever reduction in ejaculation strength.

I have had absolutely no side effects on Dutasteride, and I'm already experiencing some benefits. I would ride the Dutasteride out.

Andy, if you read this, does Dutasteride benefit the hair transplant that much? What I mean to say is, has it regrown hair outside of the implanted hairs, or does it help your transplanted hairs remain stronger and less likely to fall out?

In your opinion, is it much better than Propecia/Proscar?

I've often asked myself why I'm taking Dutasteride.
Before the hair transplants, I had very little hair on top although my crown was still a little bit hairy and I had a little bit of fluff at the front.

The transplanted hairs are still in and I know will never fall out however, spending so much money to get all my hair back, I'm genuinley worried if I stop taking the drugs, the hair will look thinner. Ho hum!
The long term side effects are a real pain so it really is a dilema for me.

I noticed very little difference between finasteride and dutasteride (apart from the cost).

Are you experiencing those side effects that you mentioned in your previous post, i.e. 1) reduction in semen production, and/or 2) severe reduction in ejaculation strength?

These don't sound like they're distressing side effects at all, especially knowing that your hair is much thicker with the medications.

They're not distressing but people need to be aware of them.
No one told me about these 2 side effects and certainly no one said they would be long term.
People need to be made aware before they start on the drugs rather than get a shock which I did

hi, i am thinking take dutasteride as well, i am alreaddy taking finasteride from a year and 2 mounths, but the results are not too good right now. i think it is losing the power. the side effects that you say of dutasteride can it be permanent? or just take more time to stop? how many time i need to take dutasteride to see if it is good for me? one month? 2? my plain is take it just one or 2 months to see if it is good or not. if i have sides go back to finasteride. what you think guys?

Like finasteride, all dutasteride side effects go away during treatment. However, they do take significantly longer because the half-life of dutasteride is much longer. You're looking at 6 months until Dutasteride leaves your body.

People are really scared of Dutasteride... It's up to you whether or not you choose to treat yourself with it. I, personally, have had no bad experiences with the drug (knock on wood), and will continue to take it.

I've actually only been taking 1 .5mg dutasteride every other day. the loss of hair still seems slow and i havent been getting any sides.

I think it goes down to the luck of the draw with this drug.
Craig - the other guy who had a transplant and who has a photo journal on my site had so side effects whatsoever either.

Just my luck to be in the percentage of guys who gets the side effects.
Ho hum, a least I get to keep a full head of hair for life - it's a small price to pay I guess.
