Hormone test BEFORE finasteride - strange and confusing

Hi guys, I need some help

I am having slight temporal hair loss (26y), no other problems (had my TSH tested) and I went to a demratologist (actually 3 of them :)). So, 2 said androgenic alopecia (one did a “pull test†other just looked at me from distance) and one said that I am losing hair from excess sebum (bs if you ask me). Anyway, my plan was to star finasteride (or the big 3), but before that I went to get my hormones tested (seemed like a good idea). And here is a shock: if anything I have androgen deficiency (ofc didn’t take anything for hair loss yet, except minoxidill for 20 day 3 months ago - probably can't blame it on that).

My values were:

Testosterone/total 3,02 ng/ml (reference 2.41-8,27)
Testosterone/free 5.95 pg/ml (ref. 3.84-34.2)
DHT (LOW) 110 pg/ml (ref. 300-850)

I read that for a man in his mid 20s, you need to be in upper third rating for testosterone (technically I'm ok).

Others were kind of ok (like estradiol 30 ng/L (ref. 7,6-42,59); only FSH was also suspicious 1.88 (ref. 1.5-12.5). I didn’t test SHBG (lab did’t had those). I thestet DHEA, progesterone LH and they where normal.

Now finally my question:
1.) I have androgen hormones of a 60 year old man and low DHT. Will it be sane to use something that LOWERS DHT like propecia? Would I have more chance to experience sides?
* I know “ask your doctor†but my GP doesn’t know the drug nor has she ever prescribed it and dermatologist (all of them) say don’t worry about the sides, even aspirin has them…
2.) I know that lover testosterone is kind of “symptomatic†for AA, but didn’t expect low DHT. So can I assume the propecia would be pointless even if I didn’t had sides? Could something else be causing hairloss, cuz i have low DHT (like I'am already on propecia)?

ANY advice would be greatly appreciated.

p.s. English is not my primary language, so sorry if there were some grammar problems

p.p.s my first post here, don't be harsh (I tried my best to read as much I can about this)

You're smart doing labs and getting baselines. All I want to say is no one here is an endocrinologist. The body is way to complicated to simplify and say "DHT" has to be high for you to lose hair; there are simply to many factors. Maybe you should get additional labs, compare results or see an endocrinologist. As far as sides, I have heard from my endocrinologist that it is the ratio of hormones that effect high libido, not simply having high "T". Not sure if that means you'll be more prone to sides having lower "T" and DHT but perhaps your ratios are good but just on the lower range of scale.

i don't know what your results mean but i was on the low side of testosterone whilst on Propecia and had good results (for hair).

there is a thread called: Low Testosterone = Accelerated male pattern baldness? if you want to look at
http://www.gourmetstylewellness.com/interac...e pattern baldness?highlight=low+testosterone

first of all, thak you for response..

Mygoodness @ yea i know no one here is endocrinologost (I will go to him), I was just curious if someone had simillar problems. Maybe you are right and my hormones are on the lower range of scale. when i know more, i'll post a reply

antman @ on wikipedia it said that low testostrone is to be expceted. quote: "Below normal values of SHBG, FSH, testosterone and epitestosterone are present in men with premature androgenic alopecia compared to normal controls". just didn't expect way below normal DHT.

Thank you for the thread, i'll look in to it.

I know this is a very old thread.
First of all you're really so smart doing all of this prior to taking finasteride.
I am in the same boat as you now and i am really surprised such a very important question did not get bunch of answers and stories to share.
Would you mind posting some updates so we get to know more on how to proceed?

Thank you,
