How are people getting finasteride cheap?

I keep hearing about people saying they got a years supply of finasteride for $31 because they got prescribed the 5mg. I hear about people saying they only spend like $3/mo for a supply because they order it from india. I looked it up and ordering the 1mg costs 30/mo at the very least. I talked to my doctor and it doesn't sound like he is willing to prescribe the 5mg because it's used for something else. Is it actually against the law for him to perscribe me the 5mg for hair loss instead of the disease it's meant for, just so I can get it cheap and break it up? I wouldn't mind asking him a little bit for the 5mg perscription as long as there no ethical issues with it. I looked at walmart and they don't even sell the 1mg but the 5mg is like $9 for a months supply there.

Some pharmacies like walmarts, costcos, and targets can sell 1mg generic finasteride for like $8 a month. I got my 3 month supply of generic finasteride from my local costco for $24. It's a great deal and very cheap. Literally less than $100 a year for 1mg per day of finasteride.

All I hear people talk about is costco but I don't have one near me. Do I just have to call all the pharmacies near me and ask the prices?

Also I'm pretty broke right now so paying $31 a month rather than $100 would make a world of difference for me. I have health insurance for the time being, so maybe I should just a derm and ditch my doctor on the whole subject?

Also once you get that perscription are you free to buy as many as you want? does your doctor write the qunatity of your perscription or are you just allowed to buy as many as you want?

Wow, really? I pay $22 a month for generic online; unfortunately we don't have Costco here. I do have a Sam's Club membership though, will have to check that out for sure.
EDIT: OMG...it's $4/month at Sam's Club according to an official price list...SMH damnit! LOL thanks for letting me know where my next 5 months will be coming from...
EDIT2: That's for the plus membership...ooooh. Will have to call and ask then.

No idea, it just says 1mg generic finasteride lol. No insurance needed either, although if you have it, you cannot apply it to the $4 or $10 priced RX's
