How Bad Is My Current Hair Loss/what Norwood Am I?

Hey all,

I'm 21 and I first noticed hair loss when I was around 19. Most of the issue has been my temples, my temple hair's used to form a nice vertical line but it seems to becoming more and more round and it's starting to become a little noticeable.

In terms of family history, my dad is probably a Norwood 2/2.5 with a bit of thinning up top but still looks great for his age. My older brother, who's 24, has no hairloss whatsoever , he still has his full juvenile hairline. On my mothers side, my grandfather lost his hair but not until later in his life (I saw a pic of him in his 40's and I didn't notice any hairloss), and all my uncles on her side have pretty much a full head of hair and are all 45+. I do have an older cousin on my mom's side who is about 30 and has lost quite a bit of temple hair, my mom and his mom are sisters so I don't know what his father's side of the family is like in terms of hairloss.

Also in the before pictures I had already began experiencing hairloss, but they're all from about 14-20 months ago.

What do you guys think? Thanks.

It looks like something between a Norwood 1 and a Norwood 1.5 to me. There is a very slight but noticeable difference between your older photos and your current one, and it honestly could just be your mature hairline.

Thanks for the reply. Do you think it's a cause of any concern as of now? Also do you think I'd be able to regrow any of it since it's all kind of recent?

I don't think you even have male pattern baldness yet
Yeah I know it's pretty minor but I definitely have noticed some temple recession. I don't know how well it shows in the pictures but my temple peaks have gone back a bit and aren't as prominent/vertical as they were before. My hairline used to be like an "upside U" kind've like a female's hairline whereas now it's very slightly developed the M shape.

No..its just a MATURE HAIRLINE....
Haieline maturation appears in men during the ages of 18-29

Get on a low dose of finasteride and go about your life

That's not a "mature hairline," that's classic early male pattern baldness temple recession. I'd say you're a Norwood 1.5. Get on the Big Three immediately.
Ah not the response I wanted but better to be in line with reality. Think it's possible to regrow it all?

Also just out of curiosity, how can one tell the difference between a mature hairline and full on male pattern baldness?

Your lucky you caught it early, you have hood thickness and only minor recession, I'm in the same boat as you with good thickness on top and recession. I would hop on finasteride at the very least.

How many hairs approx. do you notice you lose a day?
When I'm styling my hair I notice maybe 5-10 hairs in the sink after I'm done. I also have a good amount of itching/dandruff and used to get scalp pimples if that means anything.

I'm just worried about the sides associated with finasteride.

Bruh, millions of people take Finasteride without problems.

Think of it this way, you probably won't be having sex a lot once you're a slick Norwood 6, so why not "take the risk?"

Start with the lowest dosage and work yoy way up, I though about just not taking finasteride and thought that it would eventually stop on it's own, I was wrong, infact it got even worse. Catch it early and dominate it, use finasteride/rogain. You may end up not even having to worry about hair loss since you caught it early and can treat it. Don't be like me and wait, now I'm looking into a minor transplant to fix my hairline and temples.

I made a thread a while back like this one and everyone said no male pattern baldness, I still suspected it but just let it be, we'll it turned out it was early stages, now I look rediculous because it spead and messed my frontal region up. I'm going on the 7th to be prescribed finasteride and also looking into a minor transplant, we are lucky to npt have top thinning so it is that much more important to work on it.
