How bad?

Just chopped of log hair cause the top was horrible(tons of split ends and breakage down most of the hairs). I have really fine thin hair took horrible care of it and didn't trim for a year and a half almost. I've had about this same hairline/temple recession for 5 years, just turned 22. What norwood is this? I went I a derm and he was unhelpful just said temple recession meant I was doomed. My dad and his dad are bald, moms dad had perfect hair. I just started rogaine two days ago. My frontal forelock is uneven, slightly wider on right side. It's like a slightly inward curving block shape. My hair feels a tiny bit thinner all over top compared to the sides and back but might just be paranoia. It looked a whole lot worse when it was long.

I don't know what to say because picturse 1-3 definitely look like 2 to me but then the third picture... I don't know? Pull your bangs back and take another picture. I don't see how a hair specialist was not able to tell you what you were on the norwood scale though.

alright, to be honest the only hairstyle I like is long which I probably couldn't pull off with my hair type in the first place. I have the looks to pull of the buzzed/maybe 1 all over look. If I just use Rogaine would that at least give me a few years before I have to buzz it? I'd post pictures from when It was long but don't have any, looked a lot like Aragorn from lord of the rings with exact same hair type but was hitting my shoulders in back and bangs were thin and just at eye level. Given my family history I don't have high hopes but is it even remotely possible my hair loss could stay at a norwood 2/3 for at least a while? posting my hairline from 18. I don't really have any bangs its so short

Most definitely, it is very possible to maintain what you have right now and I do have to agree that I don't think you can pull off the look you're going for with the current haircut you have but that's to be discussed with a hairdresser. If you haven't already, take a look around for solutions to maintain that hairline. I can tell you that it's definitely possible and as a regular person on this forum. I think FDA approved solution are reliable. Albeit, don't have crazy miraculous expectation of gaining back your hairline, regrowth is somewhat rare from what I understand. Maintaining it is another story, maintaining is more than possible.

You of course have some temple receding but its important to treat your receding hairline while maintaining the hair you already have. It seems like the rest of your hair is doing fine. I would try a ketoconazole shampoo because its not too evasive. Start out with 1% ketoconazole sulfate free with some organic ingredients. also you may want to try adding in a thickening shampoo or conditioner to the mix. Another helpful remedy is biotin pills, I've started taking them and it boosts my hair health. Stay away for those hard core chemicals right now, you don't want to cause more damage.

I already started taking biotin and using thickineng shampoo. Since I already started rogaine I will use it for 3 months and if I don't notice any change or shed and whatnot I will stop. I think my hair looks stupid like this given my hairline is not age appropriate. Should I buzz it or grow it out to a short caesar cut?

The buzz cut might be best. It doesn't look that bad buzzed out.

Looks like you are losing it, your hair reminds me of mine around the time I got on Propecia, I was also your age. I'd recommend looking into doing the same, generally it has a very high success rate, although a very small percentage of people have experienced side effects, so if that happens to you don't f*ck around. I'm on Propecia now and it's grown some of my hair back, so if you're lucky you might be able to do the same and avoid Rogaine. Research it, and if you decide that it's for you, do it as soon as possible. It might take a few months before it starts looking great, just keep your hair short for that time and it will eventually pay dividends - the buzz cut looks pretty good on you so nothing wrong with sticking with that, or just a short cut if you like.
