How did you overcome the feeling of shame?

Today I went to my first appointment with the hairdresser.

It was very difficult to imagine myself with this in my head and having to accept the feeling of "hiding" something from others.

Is it something that only starts and then gets over? How did you do it?

It's often tough on someone psychologically when they first switch to wearing a hair system because it's a new experience and there's a lot to learn.. This was the case for me when I first started wearing (nearly 6 years ago). However, as you gain experience and knowledge of hair systems, i.e the right type and density of hair system for you, how to maintain and attach/reattach it, the right types of adhesives and styling products, how to cut it in and style it etc, eventually it gets to the point where you can wear hair with confidence because it looks natural and you know what you're doing.

The insecurity will eventually pass, but understand there's quite a learning curve and you will be bound to make 'mistakes' along the way due to inexperience. My advice is to study the subject well and become self-sufficient so you can do your own maintenance and attachments/reattachments etc. Keep tweaking things as you learn more, until you find the type of system and the maintenance method that works best for you. Then just enjoy your life with a nice head of hair.
