how do i cut proscar pills?

hey guys, so i finally made the move and bought some proscar 5mg after talking to my doctor. but im having trouble trying to figure out how to cut these very tiny pills. any tips guys?

Everyone I know cuts proscar into 4 pieces because cutting into 5 is near impossible as the pill just crumbles. :shock:

well guys i ended up cutting the pills into 6 pieces. which mean i get about .88mg a night, oh and yes i take my pill before i go to sleep. thats my starting dose, does anyone see a problem with it since its not a commonly used dosage?

some people go as low as .25 with no problems.

I use a scalpel. The same one surgeons use. It cuts it great.

No sir? I have been doing this succesfully for quite some time now, the method is one of personal choice and this thread is for suggestions, there is no right and wrong and we aren't dealing with an exact science here.
However you choose to do it I wish you all the best.

The literature that comes with my finasteride said to avoid exposure to any moisture. So I don't think biting is a good idea.

This is true actually. Once I pre-cut myself about 30 days worth of Proscar pills into 4 pieces so it would save me the trouble everyday and after the 30 days was up my hair seemed to make a massive step backward, then I read about the cut pills being exposed to moisture in the air thus making them less effective. Needless to say, I only cut one pill at a time now.

Although I kind of understand what you mean I'm a bit confused..
Surely the pill is exposed whether cut or bitten? I carefully bite 1/5 from the tablet then put it back into its packaging, isn't this exposing it less than pre cutting a pill? Or do you just cut 1/5 off and leave the rest intact?
Or do you mean the moisture from my teeth?

moisture from teeth/mouth.

And I only cut about 1 or 2 pills at a time. I do it pretty quick and I keep it in a dark place. No light, no moisture.

I try it to cut pill as in the picture ..with a very good knife with very bad results , when i press it with knife the pill imediatly crash is on that line but at the end parts are not equal ,alot of pill very small parts are lost etc
