How Do I Pick A Doctor? Should I Even Consider Transplants Or Prp?

I noticed that my hairline was receding a couple years ago, and I started using Minoxidil 5% liquid at that point. (I later added aloe gel to the regimen to deal with the itchy scalp.)

Fast forward a couple years, and I think things have slowly gotten worse. (My crown is still doing fine though.)

I'm scared to death of side effects from Propecia, so one dermatologist suggested PRP (platelet-rich plasma therapy) but she didn't seem to have much first-hand experience with it.

I asked the doctor what she thought of getting hair transplanted from the back of my head to the balding spots and she didn't think I was a bad enough case for this treatment. Separately, I'm concerned that as I age, I'd be left with two "horns" in the front of my head and no hair behind it!

Studies I've read seem to indicate that PRP has some evidence for efficacy (though not a lot) and the evidence is a little stronger for transplants.

But I'm not even sure how to pick a doctor or get unbiased advice. If I go to a hair transplant specialist, then I'd assume that he's just going to try to sell my on whatever treatment he provides.

Thanks for any advice you can give.

Propecia is like candy.

No competent hair transplant doctor will operate on you without being on finasteride or dutasteride. PRP is another story, you could try that without finasteride but results are mixed at best.

What do you mean by that?
I mean that its a very safe drug, your concerns are irrational. If you get side effects then stop the drug and they will go away. Don't listen to the hypochondriacs on propeciahelp

Ok, thanks. How do I go about picking a doctor than can give me honest advice on what procedure/drug to get?

In other words, I want someone knowledgeable, but who isn't just trying to push me into getting the most expensive thing he offers.
