How do people go from NW0 to NW3 + balding crown in 1 year?

I have a friend who is 29 years old and while his hair was always fairly thin he always had a NW0 hairline ever since I known him. All of a sudden he tells me about 6 months ago he feels his hair is starting to thin so hes going to buzz hsi hair.

I see him last week and his sporting a 1 buzz with receeded temples, diffuse thinning on the top, and a very weak/almost balding crown. I of course didnt say anything but I was in shock how fast his hairloss is. He might be NW4-5 or even NW6 in a year or two.

Is this how it happens for a lot of people? I have been losing my hair since 17 and I'm 28 years old and have slowly creeped to NW2 in 11 years but pretty much still have thick hair all around (tons of pics of my hair are floating around the forum).

Usually people who bald this fast are destined to be NW6-7 at an early age. I usually feel bad for them more than anyone else because it seems that they are the ones least likely to get help from minoxidil/propecia. The genes for baldness are just too strong for them.

Most of us just have slower recession and general thinning and we might just end up NW4/5/6 with a little hair on top but no density.

Yep, that's pretty much my uncles (who are between 40 and 50). NW5 with a few hairs on top.

And I'm NW3 + diffuse thinning already at the age of 23 :(

Can anyone else confirm this? I would not like this to be true.. I am hopeful that my regimen will help despite my rapid hair loss....

It's anecdotal, there are some guys we have seen who have managed to keep a lot of their hair despite having bald father/brothers etc.

However, if you look around on the forums the majority of people posting pictures that look like they are destined for a NW6-7 within 3-5 years usually struggle to keep their hair even on minoxidil and finasteride/dutasteride.

I'm guessing by having a lot of hair fall out.

Who woulda thunk it
