I'm not trying to deny anyone's success or the obvious efficacy of the product. However, I simply can not understand and justify the continuous use of a drug that alters your body chemistry indefinitely. I mean, as much as I want to, I can't bring myself to get on a drug that'll change my hormones forever- it's unnatural and bound to have some negative ramifcations in the end. I'd undersntand if it was temporary, but a sustained alteration of your internal chemsitry just sounds wrong, and i can't think of too many drugs that do that that you have to stick with forever. Just because the FDA approved it doesn't mean it's absoultely safe- the FDA many times has recalled drugs that it approved, and some are bound to be proved harmful eventually. So my point is, how do you all have the balls to get on Propecia?

Iseras: What made you think that propecia alters your hormones indefinetly? If that were the case then after abatement of the drug wouldn't you see prolonged efficiency?

On a more personal note I took propecia because I was desperate. It's the most proven treatment on the market today and ultimately it became a question of whether I really wanted to halt my hairloss or not. I haven't rethought the decision once to this day.

In answer to your question, I guess people just take the risk in their stride and think f*** it! We are sad that we are losing our hair and this is the best treatment that money can buy currently, in my own circumstances I just became so desperate and thought f*** it! But I left it too late and im fucked!

Propecia has been around for a quite a few years without long-term users reporting horror stories so I wasn't concerned about its safety, using dutasteride was more of a risk but it's one I'm happy to take to hang-on to my hair.

It doesn't change your hormones forever or indefinitely. finasteride has been on the market quite a while before it was ever used for hair loss. It's pretty darn safe as far as drugs are concerned. What brought you to the conclusion that it changes your hormones indefinitly?
If you experience undesireable SE's stop taking it, and things will go back to normal.

Oh, I know it doesn't cause a hormone alternation if you quit- By indefinitley, i meant that if you're gonna get on it and it works, you're gonna stick with it indefinitely, therfore having the hormone change indefinitely. So yeah, it'll be working, but at the same time you're altering you body chemsitry for as long as you're on it- which to me sounds a bit scary.

You're a data-addled stress machine. :p

Paranoia has no place in my book. All of your concerns are "what ifs" and "maybes" and I don't live my life in that manner. It's that simple for me.

my scare is if there are serious long term side effects - like in 10/20 years time which they haven't discovered as it hasn't been used for that long. Unless you can find out the long term effects earlier - I have no idea how medical science works...

Proscar has been available since 1994.

Smoking was good for you 40 years ago.
Red Die #5 did not cause cancer 25 years ago.
Ephedrin did not cause heart failure 3 years ago

Some food for thought.

Yes it did....I remember hearing about people dropping dead from it 10 years ago. It used to be really popular in the gym....But since it was "natural" stupid people thought it was safe and popped them like candy. Anyways, nothing is safe anymore, breathing isn't even safe anymore. Just use common sense. If finasteride is not for you then don't do it.

My question, as a fellow balder, would be:

How do you have the guts to NOT be on Propecia?

The psycological effect of believing that you're doing your best to stop a problem, is huge. It gives you hope, and removes any guilt.

And, if you live in fear of anything new causing cancer, life will be hard...

It's nice reading an intelligent post sandwiched in paranoia. Such a rare thing.
