abcdefg said:Another possible answer is no one knows. I promise you merk nor anyone else understands exactly what pathways, genes, and how everything at the molecular level is all related and what it is doing. If they did there would be very effective treatments or a complete cure. Finasteride is the 1990 era scientific "guess" going with what we know at the time which really isnt much. 50 years from now we will have a more advanced, accurate, and safer guess. The previous poster said some of our current theories.
"ut apparently it leads to androgen independent prostate cancer cells and the subseqent "docj077 said:HARM1 said:Is it because the more DHT we have the bigger the prostate is - more cells- more chance of one being cancers ? or is DHT a mutagen ?
DHT binding to the androgen receptor in the prostate causes the activation of the prostate androgen-regulated (PAR) gene. I can't really find any information on the signaling pathway after that step, but apparently it leads to androgen independent prostate cancer cells and the subseqent hyperplasia, dysplasia, etc. So, that gene must be involved with genes that control cellular proliferation.

So youre saying DHT is a mutagen?
HARM1 said:I finasteride used to treat prostate caner? ( or dutasteride)
Are you learning med?docj077 said:HARM1 said:I finasteride used to treat prostate caner? ( or dutasteride)
Neither. Chemical castration or prostatectomy are the only answers, but I believe that either of those drugs may be used for the unexplainable androgens that seem to stick around even after castration is performed.
I can sure look it up if you want me to. I have access to mdconsult, which is pretty much the premier site for doctors. It's rare to see a physician that doesn't use it nowadays.

I would like to know if people with no 5AR- 2 OR people WITH androgen insensitive to andogens ever get Prostate cacncer

both of them don't get prostate cancer? hmmBryan said:HARM1 said:I would like to know if people with no 5AR- 2 OR people WITH androgen insensitive to andogens ever get Prostate cacncer
Nope.
HARM1 said:Then is it known how DHT causes cancer?
So how do men with no or very little DHT in their prostate, never get prostate cancer?Rage said:HARM1 said:Then is it known how DHT causes cancer?
DHT does not "cause" cancer. Cancers have the following attribute:
1. They are more resistant to death
2. They spread to other areas
3. They have heightened proliferation
Cancer cells don't just gain the above effects out of nothing, they gain them by mutations in genes that naturally control those effects. Proliferation is controlled by growth factors, with molecules such as epidermal growth factors, estrogen and DHT. You'll also notice that these molecules are all linked with cancer.
Growth factors, like DHT, don't "cause" cancer but are often linked because they are genetically pre-encoded proliferation enhancers. When the gene is damaged and become abnormally active, you get cancer.
Are you saying that DHT only increases the chance for fancer because of more cell dividing ?maddoc23 said:DHT does not cause cancer.
Finasteride and other 5alpha blockers are being studied right now to prevent prostate cancer, but there has not been any definitive data released from those results. Prostate cancer occurs because as men age their prostate grows. Whenever cells divide they have a higher rate of mutation. These mutations tend to lead to cancer. DHT is a known trophic hormone of the prostate, thus why its being looked at to prevent prostate cancer

again, how do you respond to the fact that men with no or very little DHT in their prostate, never get prostate cancer?
Hello friend ! Could you show me that this is what the medical world belives in ?docj077 said:HARM1 said:Are you saying that DHT only increases the chance for fancer because of more cell dividing ?maddoc23 said:DHT does not cause cancer.

You sort of explained it to yourself. No DHT means no hyperplasia. No hyperplasia means no accumulation of mutation. No accumulation of mutation means no cancer.

I don't get a few things:
With no dht or very little dht prostate prostate cell still duplicate, no? So cancer can still happen. maybe in a much less chance, but still a chance. maybe because of the low rate, then is is belived that this people never get it.
what do you say?
