How high of doses have people taken?

I recall studies being done on the effects of doses of 5 mg finasteride (1 full proscar pill) and 2.5 mg dutasteride (5 dutasteride pills) and their effects on hair loss. These ultra-high doses did increase the hair count, though there was a noticeable "decreasing return to scale". I'm wondering if anyone has gone all out and taken like 10 mg dutasteride daily or 20 mg finasteride or something crazy like that, because it seems higher concentration does have a noticeable positive effect on hair count. Anything about any crazy doses and their effects, or is 2.5 mg dutasteride and 5 mg finasteride the highest anyone has ever gone?

Anyone? The reason this is interesting to me is that with higher doses hair counts did increase significantly, so could the cure for baldness just be taking ultra-high doses of these medications? How come medical science hasn't dealt with this possibility?

Try posting this in the correct forum.

And there is a very clear and definitive answer to this.

There is a Japanese study showing that 0.5mg and 1mg are almost equally effective on the crown. HOWEVER, 1mg is significantly more effective on the frontal part. Consequently, 5mg would certainly be significantly more effective on the frontal part than 1mg.

got any links to that philly? if thats true its something id be very interested in

I don't know why you would take anything less when the data clearly shows that 1mg gives the best results :smack:

I take 2.5mg Finasteride (half a Proscar tab) daily and for a couple of years Avodart too, I had very good results although how much is due to the boost from the female hormones and the antri-androgens (Androcur) is hard to tell, though I'm sure it's significant.

The only thing I can add really is that I was unable to see any benefit from using dutasteride + finasteride, over finasteride alone so I stopped using dutasteride about 6 months ago.

Androcur is a very powerful drug, to all the anons and lurkers, *please* do not consider Androcur unless you are under medical supervision and have very regular blood pressure and a variety of blood tests and are emotionally capable to accept the effects this drug will have on you.

Basically a typical clincal prescription of Androcur (Cyproterone Acetate) will pretty much chemically castrate you and cause permanent changes to your body.

Common rapid onset effects of androcur are:
Sterility
Loss of sex drive
Comprehensive blocking of testosterone
Loss or thinning of body hair

Common side effects are:
Death
Thrombosis
Stroke
Paranoia
Depression

Please please please, do NOT take this drug purely for hair loss.

In early testing of finasteride, volunteers took as much as 80 mg/day for a few months with no problems (I emphasize here that it wasn't part of a hairloss trial, it was just to test the safety of doses that large). So I certainly wouldn't refer to 20 mg as being a "crazy" dose! :)

Propecia simply shouldn't be considered for hairloss, its just to big.

I'm still wondering why most of the scientist try to reduce DHT, it may be the reason for hairloss, but it isn't just a "waste" produced by our body that can be reduced without considering it's effects..

Wow, that's interesting. Too bad no actual hair counts were taken. Do you have any opinion as to whether large doses like 80 mg would be significantly more powerful in preventing hairloss not just on the crown but in frontal areas?

There is a study with hair count as well, 1mg grows the most, although 5mg did grow more sooner, eventually the 1mg caught up.

Make a subforum for this pill too :D. Is it taken to prevent hair loss or does it have another purpose? How effective is it?
