How Likely Is It That finasteride Is Causing My Libido Problems?

I am a finasteride user coming up on 4 years. I first got on finasteride in early 2017 to stop my diffuse thinning ( caught it early) and my hair basically looks the same as it did 4 years ago. However, I am having erection/ libido problems. Currently I am not sexually active so I guess it’s not a huge problem but I have almost 0 interest in sex. I will only feel the urge to get off 2 or 3 times a week and even then erections are poor quality and I cannot maintain them at all hardly. I do not get morning wood either. ( I don’t watch p**rn either)

anyways I am not sure if these are finasteride sides slowly creeping up on me or if something else could be causing it? It’s weird because even before taking finasteride I don’t really Remeber having a crazy sex drive intact I hardly Remeber anything specific about my erections back then since it was a long time ago and at that time I had not been sexually active. That’s why I’m not sure if this is just the way I’ve always been and not noticed or if finasteride is the culprit. I do Remeber that early on when I started taking finasteride I was sexually actively for a bit and didn’t seem to have erection problems, although I still would say I did not have a high libido.

so the logical thing to do seems to be to stop finasteride for a bit but I don’t want to risk hairloss. I also don’t want to tell my dermatologist I may be getting a side so that he stops prescribing it... am I crazy to keep taking this? It feels impossible to choose between hair and sex and even if I quit finasteride there’s no guarantee I’d develop a sex drive while there’s a high chance I’ll lose my hair.

I would switch to topical finasteride and see how you feel. Are you experiencing any type of anxiety, stress, or depression?

It is not uncommon to have low libido/ED when you are depressed or feeling insecure. This is a rough time for everyone with so many crazy things going on in this world. This pandemic has really affected people in a very negative way. And if you obsess about your hair loss, its going to affect you negatively. I seriously doubt after 4 years, you are suddenly going to have low libido due to finasteride.

You tried horny goat weed or zinc? As that helped me when I first took oral Finasteride and had side effects. Topical Finasteride never gave me side effects and I been using it since 2010.

I've bee on finasteride for almost 9 months or so, and I have the same problem as you. Though I stil have interest in sex, I found out that masturbating more often would make me more active sexually. Still, compared to before, it is much worse. But I do not mind it as long as my hair does not thin anymore.

Been on finasteride for almost 3 years and I been starting to get the low libido side, it hit out of nowhere because before that I was okay and very sexually active ( did it 6 times in a day), I also started having anxiety, now that I think about it, I didn't notice the sides but overtime they've been happening and have compounded, I've reduced my dosage to 3 times a week now, my hair is the thickest it's ever been and I don't want to give up on this drug quite yet. Try maca, that has definitely helped boost my libido, still not as good as before but better. I'm 23 so it's likely not an age related issue.

I can’t say as I trialed it myself when I had oral side effects, best check with your doctor or online.
