How long did it take you to regrow/stabilise on finasteride?

Hey guys,
I'm wondering how long it took each of you to start getting results on finasteride? Also what dosage do you take each day?

I've been on finasteride 6 months now with no sign of new hair and hair loss still seems aggressive. Is there any hope for improvement or even stabilisation with me?

At month 3 I was 50/50 as to whether what I was looking was start of regrowth or more miniaturisation, but seeing as I could style my hair better than when I started I was convinced, then month four it looked better, then this month, month 5, it seems to be onwards and upwards, touch wood.

You should really give it a year before you decide to add anything, and even then, members like Rawtashk didn't see frontal re-growth, substantial re-growth I would say, until 16 months in or something like that.

it took me 11 months and 25 days to be exact to see less hairloss. I was a late responder. I even wanted to quit at one point, but guys like rawtashk and finimin told me to stick with it. the hairs I shed all year we mostly weak hairs. So now I am praying in the next few months I get those hairs back thicker.

I guess with hairloss treatments like finasteride, you must be patient. its a slow painful process to treat LOL.

Hit the six months mark now, and looking pretty terrible compared to my starting position (more noticeably 'balding'). It's the positive stories and anecdotes here and on similar outlets that are making me determined to stay disciplined and keep going to at least the 12 month mark. :)

Thank you all for your thoughts. Starting on a topical finasteride myself (with some other things in it, as well) in a few days. I will be sure to give it over a year (really hope it doesn't take that long!)

Hi Lead, how did it proceed?

lol i think after 3 years and 14 weeks since he last logged in, the chances of a reply are slim.

i say lets all be positive and imagine the guy regrew all his hair after a year and has spent the last 3 years slaying like a bad motherfucker

How come the shedding when on propecia is not more widely reported ??? Most derms online say they've never had a patient with shedding but it seems v common judging by this forum

maybe cos most derms have absolutely no f*****g idea what thier talking about.

my shedding was f*****g awful lol. like a diseased cat. for months and months. but by the end of the year i regrow between 1-2 norwoods.

Sun Chyme, I've been on ffin 10 months. Is it possible that the visible thinning/ shedding I see on my temples at month 8 or 9 till now is going to regrow? Or am I screwed?

Can you share your shedding timeline + hairstatus timeline. And how your hairloss was before treatment?

i hate to give out advice really as im not an expert at all on this.

but i would definately wait one year, maybe a little longer and see where your are. there are people out there who have had long periods of shedding before it finally coming back. but there are also guys who dont respond well to finasteride and their hairloss actually speeds up.

are you sure your temple shedding has been going on for 9 months straight? or has it come and gone. maybe its going through another shed and will come back stronger? do u take pictures? you should take clear pictures of your progress month by month to see whats happening. the mind will play tricks with you, so you need pictures to compare

but either way i say wait a year or a bit longer, and compare your hair then to when you first started. if your hair is still worse off, id say finasteride isnt your mate and try something else

maybe others here can help

i cant remember exactly the timeline, it was a few years ago now. but ill give it a go

hairloss started at 17/18, i started meds at 26 as nw3/4ish. i used min alone for 9 months or so and got good regrowth (after a bit shedding at the start). that brought me back to about nw2/2.5. then it started to thin again so i started finasteride, had LOTS shedding, much worse than min, which last a good few months, maybe 4 or 5 i cant remember precisely. it was a lot though. but by the end of the year i was back to around nw2/2.5.

im guessing i shed a lot because i had started to thin at 17/18, so by the time i was 26 pretty much all the hair on top was already miniaturized to some degree. so lots fell out when i started finasteride. but i was good responder and it all came back stronger.

but it was too good infact. i eventually got very bad sides too. so i had to quit after a year. which sucked. i was just too sensitive to the drug. amazing regrowth but bad for everything else.

Thanks for your response.
TBH, I have only shed some in the past few weeks. Before that, finasteride and min together had stopped any further hair loss. So I suppose it might be working. Or maybe my male pattern baldness shed phase might have been in an interval.

You are so right about clear pictures. I will start taking them now. For the past few months, I have only old pictures. It surely seems my hairline was stronger a few months ago (started 10 months ago). So... I would venture a guess it is working.
I wonder if it will regrow anything.

Also, Do you think switching to higher concentration of minoxidil (I just changed to 7.5%) can ruin my hairline? could I still get back to 5 if so, or should I stick it out?

i dont know too much about min%'s tbh. maybe post in the growth stimulants section and ask there. i dont think switching it will ruin your hairline but it might make you shed again and the start the process again seeing as your using a different percentage. i just used 5% and it worked well for me

See a shed again and then fresh growth eh? Interesting that you'd say that. Can you quote a reference. How did you get to that estimate?

I did post in that section. No response yet :(

Your post gives me some hope tho

youll shed the hair you got from the 5 percent, and regrow new hair from the new percentage. the hair u regrow with 5 will be lost because your using a differnt percentage

I THINK SO, im really not sure, i havent used min for a while, but im sure i read this before with guys switching up min percentages.
