How long until dutasteride lowers DHT to its max potential.

I have been on dutasteride for 10 days and have been on finasteride for 5 months. I'm still taking both but I read somewhere before that dutasteride takes like 3 months to lower DHT to its maximum potential. If this is true I will keep using finasteride for that time. Anyone know if this is true?

4 months

but it will already be past finasteride's ability at 10 days to inhibit DHT so it is fine to drop it

do you still believe that its almost impossible to lost hair when on dutasteride. Also, how can you tell that dutasteride is responsible for any of your results when you were using minx? One last thing, do you think that 54% inhibition of DHT is enough to stop balding for a guy who has been balding since 16.

you get 54% from the graph?

That inhibition number is a percentage of overall DHT including type 1 DHT, which is in high quantities in the scalp and isn't inhibited very well. Type 1 has nothing to do with hairloss, so a lot of that uninhibited 46% of DHT is harmless. and dutasteride will stop hairloss at least in like 96%+ of cases and that is conservative. The study done gave a number of 99.4%. If it doesn't stop it in it's tracks it will be so slowed down to make progression of hairloss unnoticeable for years probably

Did any of you dutasteride users do a loading phase to start with in the first month to get quicker results? Or is that just a myth?

dutasteride has a very long half-life (5 weeks), and so it is metabolized very slowly. dutasteride at 0.5mg daily takes several months to reach a steady state concentration in the blood. Taking a loading dose of 1.5mg a day for the first ten days, and then the usual 0.5mg a day from then on will enable the drug to build up much quicker in your body. I myself used this loading method when I began dutasteride. From looking at the graph, you can see that after ten days of the 1.5mg loading dose, the amount of dutasteride in your blood will be very close to the steady state level. If you were to take 0.5mg a day from the very beginning, it would take at least two months to reach where you'd be at after 10 days of the loading dose.

Ive taken dutasteride at 0.5mg each day for two weeks now is it too late to start the loading dose? If I say take say 1.5 mg for seven days and then continue with .5mg will that work?? Sorry for all the questions im just anxious for quicker results.

Actually, dutasteride inhibits almost all of type II enzymes from a single 0.5mg dose.

It should take only a few days of every day dosing to achieve maximal inhibition of all 5-AR enzymes.

Hmm... so who is right?

I was losing hair on finasteride for 5 months and the hairs were always significantly thinner at the bottom than the higher up you went and this is how I knew finasteride wasnt working for me.
Now Ive been on dutasteride of 10 days and I see less hairs but this could all be in my head and very likely that it is. Anyway thats one of the reasons I want to know how long will I need to take dutasteride for it to stop hairloss.

We both are.

You should take it for as long as you want hair loss to stabilize.

No, not too late to begin the loading phase. That sounds a good idea to do 1.5mg for 7 days and then 0.5mg thereafter. Or you could just do the 1.5mg for 10 days instead of 7 days, just to make extra sure that you've got your dutasteride levels up to where you want them to be. To be honest though, it doesn't make much difference either way in terms of DHT suppression.

Your chances of stopping hair loss by using dutasteride are very high. You can expect that dutasteride will stop any further hair loss for at least another ten years, if not indefinitely. As for how long dutasteride takes to stop further hair loss, the answer is that dutasteride should stop the miniaturization process right away when you begin taking it, because as soon as you begin taking dutasteride, your hair follicles from that point onwards are protected from DHT, and thus will not miniaturize any further. However, it could take several months before there are any visibly observable changes.

i can almost gaurantee dutasteride will work unless your hairloss is caused by something else.

Not true. Many people don't have success on dutasteride, especially if finasteride failed. I just started duta as well and honestly I have little hope, but want to try everything possible before I give up on hair.

Are there any particular things on the side effect front that are different from finasteride?

Only been on it 3 days. Nothing as of yet. When I first started finasteride I noticed some sides the first couple weeks as my body adjusted. Nothing like that so far since switching to duta. Feel the same.
