How many hairs is normal to lose in shower? (Washing hair daily)

Hi guys

I have bought one of those hair catchers for the shower, and counted approximately 35/40 hairs. Is this normal?

I wash my hair daily as I suffer from scalp eczema and my hair gets greasy after about 12/24 hours.

Thanks

100-200 per DAY is normal. Any hair that falls out in the shower was meant to fall out at some point.

Yup I've read that around the web too. But when you say normal, is that for someone who isn't balding, or a normal non-balding person?

Also, just in the shower, is it normal to lose around 40? As I can't count how many I lose in the day.

EDIT: Around half the hairs were dark normal hair, however i'd say around 15 were thinner and not that dark, whilst 5/10 were just really short thin hair, around 20mm at most. Does this mean anything?

The issue isnt how many hairs you shed its how many hairs cycle back to normal growth to take their place. In male pattern baldness the hairs shed, but never grow back to normal color, length, thickness. That is male pattern baldness them miniaturizing over the cycles so the part of the cycle where they shed is normal for everyone

I've found that it depends on what kind of shampoo I use. I've tried all of the shampoos in this list: http://menshair.guide/best-shampoos-for-hair-growth.html with varying results. The Ultrax Labs one has been the best I've used so far. I'm still shedding but it's slowed down since I started using it. Also, try not to use too much hair gel. When I wash hair gel out of my hair I've noticed even more hairs come out. I think the stickiness of the gel tugs them out. Try experimenting with your diet too.

I'll never agree with this that the 150 or 200 pieces per day is normal. I was losing even 300 hair daily. Now, when I stabilized losing hair, I lose max 30 pieces daily. I know this, because many times I counted. ''200'' is already an advanced balding, even 100 per day. And that's way exactly the ''100'' is considered normal, to not to make a panic and don't stress people, and to do to they would not cared it so much. And when falls out 200 hairs a day or more, may be too late. I think that the ''200'' falling out hairs daily it's not any normal situation, and the saying that it's a normal it's fuc**g bull****. Of course it's my opinion only and maybe I'm stupid. I think the norm is at about 20 max 50 pcs daily, and above the 50 pcs it's a balding state.

The 100 or 200 estimate is over the course of the day, where you will lose hairs without really noticing them.

Of course losing 100 or 200 hairs in the shower is bad news.

5 MAX. anyone saying otherwise has been losing their hair for too long and dont remember what normal is. When i had 0 hairloss i maybe found 1 hair once a week in the shower. So losing "40-50 hairs is perfectly normal!" is the biggest bs i heard in my life.

I would say that losing 5-15 hairs in the shower is pretty normal. Look at the drain in the shower after a girl uses it. If you're losing like 20+ I would be concerned.

For me, I only lose 15-20 hairs in a normal shower these days - and that's usually showering 1-2 times a day. If I'm showering twice in the day, the number is very minimal for the night shower.

When I was going through the balding phase on Minoxidil, I was definitely dropping 150+ per shower. I think if I started losing that many again, I'd be concerned...

Lost about 50 in the shower today. I shed more on days where I sleep with castor oil in my hair. Most days it's more like 20. I shed a hell of a lot each day and it's very worrying, but I have done so before balding and throughout my almost 3 years on finasteride and minoxidil with no noticable loss in density or coverage. Actually my density and coverage has only been getting better afaik, even with the huge amount of shedding. I also have psoriasis which I wonder if could be responsible. And my hair shedding seems to happen mostly from the back and sides where my hair is thickest...

Does MP actually cause shedding? I know it causes shorter growth cycles which can lead to increased shedding. I don't remember a time when I didn't shed a lot, but that could be because I've been experiencing male pattern baldness for a long time.

What if you notice almost all your shedding is happening in your "permanent" donor region, and not from your male pattern baldness region? For me I know it's happening in the back because after showering I lightly pull and brush the back and sides and after 10-20 passes I have pulled out 50-60 hairs, but when I do the same on top, almost nothing... Of course the hair on the back and sides is significantly thicker and denser so the probability of hair fall would be higher there since proportionately I have more hair there.

When people say it's normal to lose 50-150 hairs per day, it's not because of some kind of conspiracy to get you to think you're not balding when you are, as someone implied. The number is derived from the idea that an average person has 100,000 hairs on their head, and at any given time 10% of them are in telogen. I have no doubt that losing 100 hairs a day is perfectly normal to a lot of people who have no Androgenetic Alopecia and have a perfectly full head of hair. I was one of them.

And yes, Androgenetic Alopecia does cause increased shedding in most cases. This is because by definition Androgenetic Alopecia shortens the anagen phase of affected hairs, so hairs enter telogen exponentially sooner than they would. In some cases, balding people won't shed very much, but this could be because there isn't a lot of hair left to lose. That 10% of 100,000 number obviously doesnt apply in all cases. Just because you lose 10 hairs a day doesn't mean you don't have Androgenetic Alopecia or that it's not aggressive, and just because you lose 100 hairs a day doesn't mean you will be bald next week. It's just not so straightforward. My bf, who has the thickest head of hair (seriously, like a white afro,) lost 40 hairs last night after I ran my hands through it for 10 minutes.
