How Rapidly Did male pattern baldness Set in?

i've been shedding hair everyday since the past 4 years at least. But i never noticed thinning. not till recently. My Hairline went from perfect to the M shape within a matter of a month just recently after my Exams. and my front is as thin as anything....i just washed my hair, when the hair fell back and i checked my scalp out n the mirror its almost as if my front doesnt have hair and the top center of my head is almost empty. i'm using long hair as a cover up but its impossible to style my hair now. just tooooo thin and weak. I'm afraid if i get a haircut my entire loss is gonna be visable and i'm gonna appear completely bald.

my question is , how fast did male pattern baldness set in , in your case? ...it seems to weird to me that it was so slow since 4 years and then right after my exams i see my hairline goto sh*t, and this much thinning in the front and mid-center of the scalp just like in my avatar.

Could be the stress of exams along with a fierce on set off male pattern baldness. Keep at regime, and things should get better hopefully

I started at around 17, now 27.

It was pretty slow, obviously as time goes on I could not hide or style the way I used to. It's been 10 years and I have probably got about 10 remarks in 10 years about it, from family and friends, strangers never said anything.

I was a pro at playing hide and seek with my temples.

i noticed thinning at around age 20 im now 27 and i'm just starting to not be able to cover up the holes. i now cannot hide it anymore - so 7 years from obvious begging to not being able to hide it

i think it varies alot though, i knew a guy at university who had a weak, but full head of hair and 3 years later was practically norwood 7, that must have been like going through hell for him - just 3 years to adjust to such a drastic change in appearance

I've been thinning since 16/17 at least, noticed a thin spot on my crown at age 19, so it must have been thinning for a while at least before that.

Well, I shed some every day... but have no thinning at all

I don't know whether this is normal for me or the start of male pattern baldness. There are some non-male pattern baldness people who shed loads and some male pattern baldness people who notice their hair visibly thinning but don't actually see much hair being shed. But looking at my hair, I seem to be going in the direction of my dad's side pattern (only slight thinning on top well into old age) although I can't be dead sure yet. My mom's side has some pretty bad male pattern baldness , but atleast it moves slowly (35 years to go from NW2 to NW6).
To krush: I've realized something about the short hairs which some people shed. Just check the tip (NOT the root) of the hairs which shed. If the tip is blunt, it's OK. But if it tapers, then its a bad sign because that indicates that the anagen cycles are shortening.
Cheers,
Arjun

as in...if the top of the hair and not the part with the bulb?..if the top is thinner than the rest than thats bad?

i cant really make out the difference actually...no..its pretty much the same throughout..no tapering..blunt..why is that good? and how can you tell the anagen thingy from this..

i would've thought if the part towards the bulb was thinner that would've meant something, since thats the part that grew later..

goes to show what i know..squat

When the edge of a hair is uncut(pointed) then it started growing and entered the tellogen phase of the cycle in a period between haircuts-which in most cases indicates very short cycling accompanied with miniaturization of the follicle due to male pattern baldness.

Sad.

Well I've never had a thick thick head of hair as my hair tends to be more fine. But I did start noticing that after my 25th birthday my hairloss started to pick up speed. I really noticed it when I got a stressfull job that required me to be always three steps ahead of what I was doing. After I got that job my hairloss picked up major speed :freaked2:

i lost almost EVERYTHING i've lost up to date in the span of about 6 months. I remember New years 2001 looking at a picture of myself and thinking that I looked pretty good...I graduated that same year in May and remember looking at my pictures from graduation and THAT was when it really hit me hard..i was practically bald. My first year, I could stick pencils in my thick hair and they'd stay there even if I moved my head around. By the time I was done, i was practically doing a combover. It all happenned overnight. The loss since then (1 year on treatment) has been very slow to nonexistant. I too ran into a friend of mine from University who used to have more hair than I did..and now he's a Norwood 6. The bottom line is, that the sh*t can hit the fan FAST and furious, so in the meantime..eat healthy and stay on your meds. Maybe you htink your medication isnt working , but it damn well might be.
