Ive been on it for 5 months. Started noticing sides at week two. Low libido, couldnt get proper erections etc. Now im really concerned about the future. Should i just quit right away, or slowly cut down on dosage? I use 1mg Propecia from Merck ed. Thanks for answers, and excuse my bad language!

You might try reducing the dose to .5mg daily and give it a couple of months. That is nearly as effective as 1mg and might help alleviate sides. If you decide to quit, wean off very slowly.

When I first noticed side effects of finasteride, I reduced the dosage simply to see if the problems would go away. I started having 0.5 mg/day instead of 1 mg. However, I ended up still not liking its effects, and then I simply quit cold turkey, with no problems. I only used it for about a month and half though. As far as I know, there are no problems with quitting Propecia cold turkey.

I assume you recovered 100%. How long did it take?

Yes, I haven't noticed any lingering effects, and I stopped about a year ago. Side effects disappeared instantly, maybe within the next day or so. However, by that time, I had reduced my dosage to 0.5 mg/day, so maybe it was less noticeable. Overall, I had no problems and was back to normal immediately after quitting.

It was probably nocebo then. DHT levels in your blood one day after quitting were about the same.

I quit three days ago and got morning wood last night for the first time in a while. Still not 100% but will improve as the days pass. I'm working out and taking extra zinc just to boost my test levels.

Maybe, but remember, I also reduced my dosage before quitting, so the changes would be less sudden and less noticeable anyway. Also, the side effects when I was on the full dose of finasteride was NOT a loss of libido or ED - it was just generally feeling "crappy" combined with an INCREASE in libido. So it was contrary to what I might have "expected" to take place. Thus, I am skeptical that it was a nocebo, though I'm open to the possibility.

Is the difference that big? I tought 1mg reduced almost the same amount of dht in the blood as 0,5.

Hey,

I also used finasteride, and you know its just like an umbrella, its effective when you take it, Once you stop its not effective.

But what I did is, I used to take it like for 6 months everyday 1 mg after breakfast. and then for next 2 month ı started taking finasteride 1 pill in 2 days. for the next month 1 pill for 3 days. and then I finally stopped.

Consuming dose daily very less..... Then consult your doctor to take or try the natural remedy...It will increase your body health and protect from various infection and side effects.

You might be correct. I haven't seen any studies on humans comparing a 0.5 mg dose of finasteride with a 1 mg dose, but one study was done on monkeys showing that a 0.5 mg/day dosage lowers serum DHT levels pretty much as effectively as a 2 mg/day dosage (http://press.endocrine.org/doi/abs/10.1210/jcem.74.2.1309834). A study on humans that looked at various doses showed that even a 0.2 mg/day dosage was effective, though the authors conclude that 1 mg/day is the "optimal dose" (http://www.jaad.org/article/S0190-9622(99)80052-8/abstract?cc=y=). I personally did feel the side effects were somewhat less for me when I took 0.5 mg/day vs. 1 mg/day, but I didn't really thoroughly "test" that theory over a long period of time, so take it for what it's worth.
