How to tell where to apply Rogaine

Hi,

I think that I am going to start using Rogaine. I'm 24, family history of male pattern baldness, and for the last ~6 months I've noticed significantly increased hair shed in the shower, pillow case, etc. Not extremely dramatic, but, say, 20 hairs a day (whereas before I didn't notice anything). I've always had thin hair, but I'm pretty sure that my temples are now more recessed than they were.

Because I've read that starting earlier has better results, I'm planning on starting rogaine now. (If that's a bad idea, let me know.) But my question / concern is: How do I figure out where apply it? I have reasonably long hair (~2-3 inches) so it's hard to tell what parts are thinner. The hair loss seems to be either diffuse (can't tell which areas are thinner) or complete (recessed temple area entirely gone).

Any advice greatly appreciated.

If male pattern baldness runs in your family and you're losing a lot of hair you might want to use Propecia as well. I think that it's the best for you to see a dermatologist. Rogaine can help you stimulant hair growth but it won't stop your hair loss, although it could slow it out.

Yes, I probably will do so. But I wanted to start by trying Rogaine for a month or so first. Is that a bad idea?

Find your self a good shampoo for thinning hair. I use Nioxin. Works well for me. Also get on Propecia ASAP as well as starting Foam. :punk:

if youre going to try it, you have to commit to it for at least 6 months. maybe you'll shed a bit. maybe it won't work at all. maybe it'll work great. either way, you wont find out until after a few months. using it for a month wont tell you anything

OK, thanks for the advice. I'll start procepia shortly, and continue rogaine for at least 6 months. Any advice on how to actually apply the rogaine?

i dont think theres a best method, though i can say that if you have short hair, go for the foam. if your hair is long, go with the liquid

So do you just apply it in general / everywhere? I am sorry that this question is a bit simple / dumb, but I'm honestly perplexed as to where to apply it if you don't have clear areas where there are few hairs (or, rather, if it's hard to tell where those areas are because your hair is somewhat long).

From what I know you should only apply 1mg per morning and 1mg per night. And that you shouldn't overdose it. you should apply it when your hair is thinner on the crown area. Minoxidil works on the crown area and that's the place when you could achieve the best results.
