How Uneven Is Your Loss, Thinning And Recession?

Gosh I actually did not know women could have hair loss and certainly not recession, I guess that is the case though. I just thought women who were much older could get thinning hair from the middle of the head. I actually cant really notice any recession on your hair but then your photos are of your back of the head neck area, not an area I would have ever associated with recession. I wish my recession was in that area, would seem less noticeable then on the hairline on your face.

My hairline has receded unevenly. The right side receded much more than the left side. At the front of my head of course, in typical male pattern hairloss fashion.

It’s called retrograde alopecia. Not many women have it, but I’m just unlucky.

It is nor my impression: derm took pictures and in six months the crown had thinned very strongly while on RU.

@Georgie, these are the first photos where I can personally notice your hair loss. In the other pictures, I took your claims on trust, but in these it shows at the front/middle of your hairline at a level that I might notice in real life if I was wearing my glasses and paying attention. I would never notice the recession in the back.

For whatever it's worth I now, due to my time on this forum, frequently notice recession on women in real life. Women only rarely go fully bald, they typically have diffusion, but they can have recession at the hairline and temples and I now notice that a lot among women in their 30s. I suspect that women in general might be better at masking it, by using bangs, volumizing conditioners, etc.

Prior to being a member here, I might have written that women virtually never go bald, that they always keep most of their hair, but now I think that the norm is gradual diffusion, with it being frequently noticeable in their 30s to obsessive people such as ourselves.

I have also become a norwood spotter of women and notice the same things in many women 30's+, even some in mid 20's. Hairline diffusion and slight recession actually seems to be mild-moderately common in this population. In my line of work I am also around many senior citizens and I'd say 95% of this female population has at least some level of diffusion with 50%+ having significant recession....these percentages are all obviously estimations from me but the point is MOST women actually do appear to experience pattern baldness to some extent, although it only reaches "noticeable" levels at older age. The exception being people like my mom who is in her 60's with a flawless NW0 feminine hairline

I wonder if people don't think of women going bald because they don't tend to experience the "bald spot" on the crown, and maybe they live in denial like many of us did in the early stages, "I'm a woman, can't possibly be balding"

Many/most black women also suffering from what I often assume is traction alopecia

My left side is worse than my right as far as receding at the temples. My brocience at one point was thinking that sleeping on a specific side may have some effect.

Before I knew about alopeica, I never actually paid attention to male hairline, let along women. Now I do tend norwood spot women, but much much less than men. Reason is, their recession or thinning pattern is just not as noticeable compared to men, so I don't instinctively look. It doesn't look as odd compared to men. After some thought, I think women probably recede just as much as men, but due to how they wear their hair and the pattern they thin/recede, it's not as noticeable.

I think I saw a huge 6 head on a girl at the gym, it didn't dawn on me that it looked bad. Not sure why. Even when I saw some women with what appears to be thinning did not seem to look bad. But other women probably notice these things more.

What norwood would you say it starts looking noticeably bad(shaved or grown out) on men in your opinion from a womens perspective? I know it depends on the individual.

Yes. He is a 'frontier' derm. Meaning he understands internet and what you can get out of it.
However, he says he has never seen RU work in any of the patients who used it.

Yeah it’s rapid loss and sadly something I don’t think I will be able to hide soon, especially given that I have retrograde. My rate of loss is too extreme.

I am actually left handed predominantly (but can write with both hands).

Depends on the guy. Probably around a Norwood 2-2.5 it’s noticeable.

But funnily enough when I get compliments from females they say things like you look so young for 37 and they cite various reasons and then sometimes say and you have really thick hair unlike most guys your age. Strange I dont know if many women would noticed I have hairline recession but it is very apparent to me and perhaps to many males.

There is an actual hole there.

I don't get it, I havent seen a bald woman once, if it's not from a disease. Don't know why a chick would be thinking about losing hair since females dont. At least not until 60+ and even then it's just some diffusal thinning and it stops.

There are tons of women with visible recession, diffusion, and/or thinning.

I actually have a female friend who is losing her hair. I caught up with her the other day and there is a big baldish patch towards the mid front of her hair. Whenever I see it in women it usually seems to be diffuse hair loss rather than recession. Although maybe I just havent been looking for recession. For some reason I seem to notice it much more often in Asian women. Are Asian women more affected? My friend is also Asian as it so happens.
