Huge Increase In Hairloss After Starting finasteride

Hey guys I started finasteride about 5 weeks ago. I realize that's not a long time at all but I am freaking out. My hairloss was pretty subtle but hopped on finasteride to fill out hairline thinning and crown thinning. I've also been using minoxidil foam 1x day since june.

Since I've been on finasteride I have shed probably triple the amount of hairs I was before finasteride. Was probably shedding 100-150 hairs pre finasteride. Now I am shedding well over 300 a day. Everytime I shake my hair 30 hairs fall in the sink. I fear taking showers everyday.I am losing all types of hair. Thick healthy hairs are falling out all over my scalp I am starting to see patches of scalp everywhere. I'm also losing a lot of arm and leg hair and even eyebrow hair has been falling out?

I have had undiagnosed stomach problems the whole year so my stomach may have caused my initial hairloss and i might not even really have male pattern baldness. So im thinking that maybe i dont even have high dht levels and this finasteride shed could be Telogen Effluvium or an upregulation receptor problem. Also my libido has definitely increased.

Should I get off finasteride immideately or stay on. Thoughts???

Don't have a before pic because it was hard to even notice hairloss before I started finasteride. Now I am diffuse thinning on my scalp and it looks patchy. Really think i should quit while i still have some hair left and not let this go on for months and worsen.

dont quit, you have alrady triggered the shedding phase and it wont stop .

minoxidil and finasteride speeds up the signal to your hair to shed all hairs that is in a que to be shedded at once. you can look at it as 3-4 months of normal shedding in a month.

stick to the medication and your hair will grow back plus some extra thanks to the meds

Are there any good threads that cover Finasteride initiation shedding etc? My derm Warner me about Minoxidil and the shed was terrible, I never recovered. But she was very confident that Finasteride would not cause a shed and that it doesn’t impact hair cycles.

She might be terribly wrong and I dropped so far belong baseline in just 4 months. Please see my photos. I’m still very lucky for my age but if this continues I’ll be diffuse mess in a few months.

You have no choice but to keep going. May take a year or more for hair cycle to respond.
