What side effects are you living in fear of?

I'm the same way, I'm only 21 but I have high blood pressure and I'm scared to use minoxidil because of all the side effects and even reports of people dying suddenly after using it.

It sucks because I could use it now more than ever lol.... anyone with a heart condition safely use minoxidil?

Someone reassure me there's no danger in using minoxidil please, haha.

You guys, as terrible as losing your hair is...it's definitely not worth it if you're putting your health at risk. Speak to a physician or go to a walk-in clinic to get some answers.

Then again, you could always take pride in being a fantastic corpse with a full head of hair? Haha, no but seriously.

The dose makes the poison. The rule of thumb is that if a drug doesn't cause a systemic side-effect when taken orally, it is not going to cause it with topical use, where the systemic doses are much lower.

Given proper cardiorespiratory support, people have survived mostly unscathed after taking several grams of minoxidil in suicide attempts. This is orders of magnitude greater than what you are putting on your skin for hair loss treatment.

But what of the reports of people dying suddenly and unexpectedly after normal dosages of topical minoxidil?

Risk-benefit should be considered when the following medical problems exist
Allergy to minoxidil or propylene glycol{27}
Cardiovascular disease or{06}
Hypertension{04}{06} (patients with these conditions were excluded from the clinical trials of topical minoxidil because of the potential that adverse systemic effects could occur for the rare patient who might receive significant systemic absorption from its use, as unexplained sudden death occurred in two patients with underlying undetected, untreated cardiovascular conditions who used topical minoxidil {05} {06}).

My systolic blood pressure is regularly between 145/155 on any day which is classified as stage 1 hypertension. This text is telling me I could die suddenly simply from applying the recommended dosage of topical minoxidil.

And they sell this stuff OTC? :shakehead:

Im the same way. I do have anxiety and panic disorder, which has gotten better over time, It wasnt something I was born with but something that happened to me after a traumatic event, so im thinking it will go away eventually. Anywho, I used minoxidil for 4 years no problem. Then I stopped for about 10 months. I started up again 3 months ago, and after a week of using it I got bad palpitations. I give up the minoxidil and the plpitations went away. So naturally I assumed it was the minoxidil. However, after analyzing what really happened, I was getting palpitations during poker, so it may not have been the minoxidil, but the stress and andreneline from poker. So I am starting it up again, and 3 days into 1ml twice daily I have not had a palpitation. I did have a slight panic attack after the first time applying it, but I was able to calm myself down.

Moral of the story, panic attacks and anxiety is a horrible way to live life, I know trust me, but you can not let it govern your decisions. My advice would be to start out small, maybe half a ml once daily for the first week and see how you respond to it, then take the reccomended dose. It is very rare to die from topical minoxidil, but after all, life kills, so what are you going to do?

It is working for me, no sides. Just because you had a bad experience doesn't mean you need to spoil it for everyone else. :)
