Hypothyroidism

Hi,

as stated on my story thread i have hyputhyroidism. I started treatment at 27. I went through a bad time with lethargy etc for years and only realised when i finally went to get my bloods done. i take 75mg of levithyroxine daily and have been doing so for over a year now.

this definately doesnt help with my male pattern baldness. My hairs always in constant shed it seems because of my thyroid. Was just wondering if any other guys here have the condition ( heard its rare in males) and have any experiences they can share on how and what theyeve went through with it in terms of having it alongside male pattern baldness.

thanks

Strangely enough, I was also told spontaneously that I am hypothyroid too about two years ago, and I thought my hair loss prayers had been answered and that the shedding would stop and all would come back. Also on 75 mg levothyroxine.

Not the case. And I have no f-ing clue why my thyroid started freaking out, and have never had a single decent answer from any doctor about it. I am sure there is a link between it and my hair, but I see no sign of recovery. DO you know what triggered it in you?

My mum has it so i guess i may have inherited it.

Ive come to realise hair loss associated with it doesnt really go even when u start meds. My mums told me her hair sheds loads because of it too and always beern that way. Sucks when uve male pattern baldness too. Thankfully my hairloss has been slowed down greatly with finasteride.

hopefully someone here has some advice with coping with hypothyrodism

Hey..have you done thyroid profile test, what is your TSH levels.Treatment for hypothyroidism is must for health of the body,i have done test wondering because i was suffering from excessive sweating and had hairloss, my mother is hypothyroid but my TSH(ultrasensitive test) were in normal range.
You have to take propylthiouracil tab for life long and periodically measure TSH levels every six months.

Yes im not one of these ppl that believe their hypo and self medicate. I was officially diagnosed with it as my levels were out of range. I am retested every year to make sure im in right dosage. Currently doctor has me on 75mg which for now has me back in range.

Your right when you say its essential for the body. I felt so crap when i was untrated but thankfully after meds i feel better. However with the hair it still always sheds. I know this is because i have slow male pattern baldness but thyroid doesnt help i dont think.

Interesting to see potential links between thyroid health and male pattern baldness..
