I can't wait any longer for results with finasteride

I've been using finasteride for 6 months, 1.25mg daily. I initially experienced a shed, however this was probably due to the fact that I switched from Rogaine solution to foam at the same time. I use the foam atleast twice a day, use Revita daily and dermaroll every 2 weeks.

My hairline has continued to recede at the same rate. My father experienced increasingly aggressive hairloss at my age (20) and this is my one opportunity to stop it from taking hold completely. A number of people have been advising me to give finasteride another 6 months, however I could have lost a significant amount of hair by that time.

My options seem limited. The only viable way forward appears to be to take 0.5mg dutasteride every 2 or 3 days whilst continuing to take finasteride and see if this works. If not, I could try taking dutasteride every day and remove finasteride from my regime completely. Part of me wonders if the finasteride I am taking is even legit, however I bought it from a reputable source (Dr Singh) so adding dutasteride seems all the more necessary.

I am desperate for opinions as this is a critical stage in my attempts to slow my hairloss.

How old are you? I'm in the same boat and have been losing ground since starting finasteride and min a few years ago. dutasteride made me very tired. Let us know how you make out.

I'm 20. By 21 my father had lost a significant amount of his hair.

IMO the only reputable source to get finasteride is from a pharmacy with a doctors prescription. I use to get finasteride from 4rx. It was genpharma or something like that. I would say of the 7.5 years 3 of those years was finasteride from India. Who knows if that was legitimate or a sugar pill. All I can say is that finasteride is a prescription only medication. It doesn't make sense to me that you can buy it online without a prescription.... If it was real you would think it would be more regulated and illegal to buy online. You might be making illegal
purhases.

i remember when I started finasteride in 2003 there used to be in the drug pamphlet the side effects of people taking both finasteride and dutasteride. Sexual sides were double compared with any one drug alone and the sides with dutasteride were worse than the finasteride.

For what it's worth finasteride had its peak effects on my hair more than a year in. I started taking finasteride when I was in highschool and remember shedding all of my freshman year in college....

If you are concerned about online drugs being fake you can always get a blood test

Plenty of people who ultimately get good results report that at around the 6 month mark their hair was at it's worst/no improvement/still shedding.

If this is bothering you a really recommend getting a blood test to put your mind to rest knowing that your meds are doing what they are supposed to, and then just forget about it and give it time.

Getting finasteride through a prescription is probably a good idea because then I can ensure what I'm taking is legit before deciding to move on to, for example, dutasteride. However, I'm not sure how easy it is to convince a doctor to prescribe finasteride here in the UK.

As I said, time is of the essence time and waiting for more than a year for results could be disastrous.

Again, I'm not sure that doctors in the UK will be partiularly willing to arrange blood tests for this reason, however it is something that I should probably explore.

Hi C,
There are several ways to get finasteride without seeing your GP but they are very expensive as Propecia is still on patent, whereas Proscar is not.

https://onlinedoctor.lloydspharmacy.com/mens-health/hair-loss/propecia

This service is reviewed by a GP without you being contacted directly, but it's absurdly expensive at £59 per month.

http://www.boots.com/en/Pharmacy-Health/Online-Clinic/Propecia/

Boots is a more 'reasonable' price: £45 a month.

I, like many on here I imagine, get a private prescription from my NHS Dr. Some GPs charge for a private prescription, and others don't.
Mine doesn't and I get 28 x 5mg finasteride for about £5.00. That makes a months treatment of finasteride the grand total of £1.25!

I have been on finasteride ever since it was launched in the US [as Propecia], so about 15 years or so. I had a very progressive GP
who actually referred me to a dermatologist who took medical grade photos of my scalp at baseline, 6 and 12 months. I was a good
responder and my crown almost completely filled in. Nothing at the temporal areas but they had been 'slick' bald for many years.

I'm finally taking the plunge and going for a H/T in a couple of months with the Farjo Clinic in sunny Manchester- my initial consultation
is this Tuesday, in fact, [the 29th] and I can't bloody wait!

So, to reiterate, try your GP as first port of call; I hope they're empathic about male pattern baldness. If one Dr in the practice is reluctant to prescribe
then see another one, if they all are- change practice. There is too much inter-variability amongst GPs, but you will be able to find one.

All the best

When did you begin to see results from finasteride? My hair is worse than ever after 6 months.

Bro trust me theres nothing on finasteride that could **** your hair up.. The only thing it does is help block DHT.. Have you thought that maybe ur hairloss is so aggressive that even with finasteride its still going on? That maybe if u werent on fina u would be much worse by now? Or maybe fina just doesnt work for you.. Unless u quit it to see u wont know :/ good luck

My hairloss might be too aggressive. Maybe a blood test would help at this point to test DHT levels, I'm not sure.
