I did it! (Vin Diesel Do) -- It's Great. Highly Recommend!

Hi all,

I am a Norwood 3/3.5. I cut my hair really short all over today -- the David Beckham or Vin Diesel do. It's GREAT!!! I recommend this to ALL going through male pattern baldness especially those at NW3 + stages.

Here's why:

1) You will see that you have more hair than you thought with this do. TRUST ME -- I was first very apprehensive that it would look worse. I was surprised! My thinning crown doesn't look thin with this do cause the hair is so short all over. Even with not-so-good hairline (like me), it still looks good. I already got complement that I look younger with this do...

2) It's easy to maintain: No more combing over to cover thin spot/hairline. You can go out in strong wind, swim, wear hat, etc. without fear of your hair messing up.

3) It's good for your male pattern baldness regimen: I am still planning to apply minoxidil and taking dutasteride. With this do, minoxidil get to scalp more (rather than hair soaking it up). You can easily apply minoxidil to hairline/temple with this do.

4) It's a good interim/transition for those just starting regimen. If you just start, chances are you hair still looks pretty OK even if it's worsening. With this do, you will start out looking good. If the treatment works for you, you can always grow it longer. Plus, it's an excellent do to MEASURE the PROGRESS (unlike other do where you may have different hair length/texture depending on each hair cut).

5) You think less about your hair: this is a BIG BIG plus. With this really short do, you don't think so much about your hair -- no worries/anxieties.
It's dramatic -- I was feeling down over past month b/c of the hair. And just now, once I did it, I felt like I finally took charge of my life again and not going to let this male pattern baldness sh*t ruins my life.

6) It the best do to prepare you for dooms-day: If the treatment doesn't work and you go bald. This is the do to let you (and others around you)get use to seeing youself without hair. This do minimizes the visual effects of balding -- the difference between balding and non-balding scalp are just those short stubs of hair, instead of scalp with long hair and no hair at all.

So, guys...do it. I really recommend. It's a tough decision to go through as you will think it will look worse. BUT, it WON'T. And worse case, you can always grow it back. It doesn't hurt to try at all....

Good luck guys....

I just wish maybe you woulda found another word besides "do". On a more productive, positive, and useful note, very good advice and I'm glad you feel as great as you do with your hair cut short. However, there are still those of us who will never be able to pull this look off, regardless of how great it makes our hair look. We just don't have the heads for it. But for those with the right head shape, more power to you! I'm glad you've found some peace :)

How short did you go? What # guard on the clipper?

I think vin shaves it completely as it looks like a 5 oclock shadow. The shortest clipper is still 0.5cm long.

I'm going to shave mine this summer as well. Probably in june and then by the time it grows back (3-4 months) i'll have been on proscar for about 7 months so i can see if it did anything.

The thing is you don't know if you have the head for it until you do it. You can't judge your head shape by just feeling it since every little bump feels far bigger than it actually is.

for those with diffuse thinning at the top I think one of the best cuts if you want short hair but not that short is the fade. I use a number 1 at the sides and a 3 at the top. With the sides so short this gives the illusion that the top of your hair is thick. It works so good that I didn't realize I had thinning until two years after I started! And I am still not obviously noticeable to the general public. However, when i grow my hair out an inch more that that, it starts to become more apparent.

For those unsure or scared about the real short hair look a good measure is if you like your appearance with a hat. If so, you can pull it off. Just say f**k it and do it. No more toppik, combing over, maintenance, glancing in every window and mirror you see, or whatever else you obsessive compulsive motherf**kers come up with.

I use number 1 (0.5cm) on the clipper. I think it would still looks fine if it grows to 2-3cm when I will cut it again.

Trust me... I thought I don't have the head for this either. But you never really know until you try it.

If you are pale, underweight, overweight, etc. these are things that you can do something about, right? unlike male pattern baldness, you can change these things....go workout, tanning salan, whatever.

I agree that with this cut, it would complement you if you lose weight, bulk up on the muscle a bit, get more tanned, and buy some good clothes. I was wearing contact lens before but I now going to switch back to my wire-rim glass -- I think it adds more "weight" to overall facial feature, now that I have taken off a lot of hair of the top.

But I know for certain: I've shaved my head before, and I have the pictures to prove it.

All the problem with shaved head is that if your thah far in male pattern baldness as I am, the sides of your head where the hair still grows will look much darker than the slick top of your head.

The male pattern baldness pattern is visible as hell on my head and it look pretty aufull. I am still thinkink how to solve this as tanning or shaving it every day by razor does not help too much.

I tried to cover the balding areas with eye shadow and I looked pretty goog and young with it but as you would understand I can not were it on my head:(

Any advice or experience?

Cheers

Hmm why don't people with stark white heads simply tan the head so it looks darker? White guys should tan the head a bit, I bet it would make cue-ball heads look better -- bald heads great on black guys for this reason I expect.

Maybe tanning lotion or something? But you better go to a PRO to do that or else it might look VERY bad I expect if you try that cheap drugstore bought solution :)

Your head will be really white at the begining but the sun will tan your head after a few sun burns. Its also nice because, aleast for me, it was a lot less truamatizing because your not seeing all your hairs fall out everyday. You dont notice them in the bath tub.

I shaved my head about a year ago( still keep it shaved). It was freakin difficult for me :( . I'm a "metaller" So naturally I had hair down to my *** since I was 14. I'm now 27. To have hair for that long ( chicks loved it, .......yeah I'm depressed now  haha) it was a rather shitty thing to do. I'm sure every bald or balding guy feels/felt the same way when it all happens. I started losing hair hmmm, hell, senior year of HS. Didn;t notice it though till I was about 24. It sucks a**!! Why can;t there be ONE pill capsule and that's it . A one time deal. One capsule and BAM you have hair again lol.........Anyhow I'm ranting and getting depressed over nothing.. j/k whatever.. It's only hair ............SO THEY SAY!!!!
