I've posted before explaining that I'm not sure if this is male pattern baldness or tellogen effluvium. I 100% believe this is tellogen effluvium. I've been so stressed to the point I've been getting insomnia and haven't had a well nights rest in a while. I just can't believe this is male pattern baldness my fathers not bald and I had such thick hair 3 months ago... I've been getting severe itching and burning on my scalp also..

I was going through an eating disorder due to depression about a year and a half ago, and I lost a lot of weight because of it. I believe my unhealthy weight caused a telogen effluvium episode about a year ago. My scalp got extremely itchy all of a sudden and I was shedding a lot of hair. This shampoo with ketoconazole called lemerie or something on amazon helped a lot with the itching. Unfortunately with men, I have read that telogen effluvium can kick start male pattern baldness. To explain this better, when you shed the hairs with telogen effluvium it is just like skipping ahead 5-6 years or whatever the life span of the hair was. If the hair would have been affected by male pattern baldness 5-6 years down the road, that is why telogen effluvium can turn out the way it does for some males. I think telogen effluvium mostly affected my temples though. All of my hair felt slightly more thin when first going through the shed, but now a year later my hair is about 8 inches long all around and mainly my temples have receded a little. The main balding pattern on my dad's side is receded temples but not much loss on the back and crown. It looks like your hair has thinned on the whole top of your head. Is anyone in your family a Norwood 6, look at the balding patterns and see if anyone's matches where telogen effluvium has affected your hair.

Try that shampoo I mentioned, you need to get your scalp inflammation under control ASAP. As soon as I started using that it seemed like my telogen effluvium episode started getting a lot better. I'd wait it out for a bit if you really think you are going through telogen effluvium, then in 6 months to a year if your hair is still looking bad it could be male pattern baldness. Telogen effluvium is usually caused by extreme weight loss or some sort of physical imbalance though. It seems rare for mental stress alone to cause it, so you might want to get some blood tests done at your GP (thyroid, vitamin status, etc.) to see if anything else is going on. Best of luck man, I hope it gets better for you.

Thanks for the reply and it seems that stress induced hairloss does run in my family, I mean I've gotten stressed to the point where I have gotten insomnia. I know this is tellogen effluvium because when I forget about it and not stress about it you notice a change in just two weeks . My problem is that I have trouble to stop stressing about my hair loss. But I guarantee you I'm going to grow my hair back man

That itch/burning you mentioned is a good indicator to whether or not your hair is doing bad or good. My hair started looking better when I got that itch under control. If receded temples is the main balding pattern, then you have that on your side. A lot of guys on here would be fine with just receded temples.

First off you can have it from Mothers side

Second itching and burning GO TO THE DERMATOLOGIST

Not all Alopecia is androgenic and not all is Telogen Effluvium either--you dont itch and burn from Telogen Effluvium and Telogen Effluvium is not supposed to give you obvious hair loss....

I dont want to scare you but there are other types of alopecia that can be scarring.

So go to a reputable Dr who knows about Alopeca

So you opened a first thread in which you asked other users what you had, male pattern baldness or Telogen Effluvium.

You did not like the answer so you open a new thread (rather than continuing the older thread) in which you affirm you do not believe what you were suggested.

Way to "stop stressing."

I've been to two dermatologists both said it was tellogen effluvium, he said it definently can cause itchiness due to the inflammation. The stress also made my seb derm worse. Thanks for the reply though!

You have to figure out the trigger. In my case, I had to start eating normally again and correct some dietary imbalances to recover from Telogen Effluvium. Stress can play a role, but like I said earlier in this post, stress alone is unlikely to cause noticeable hair loss. Also, Telogen Effluvium can in fact cause scalp inflammation due to the unordinary amount of hair being shed in a short amount of time.
