I have some questions

I started taking finasterid today, and after getting minor ball- and thighache, GourmetStyleWellness was the first thing that came up in my mind. I feel chill now though after reading some topics here.

I divided the topic in different points, so it's easier to read and understand all the questions.

1) I'm a little worried now for several reasons. I'm starting to thing my problem is just not typical male pattern baldness, I think there is more to it... Since a couple of years back, I have had incredibly itchy scalp, and when someone massages me, it feels so good I shiver sometimes. I was to the barber the other day and she commented my scalp looked irritated, and when she used a razor in my neck area my skin became very red. Could the itchyness itself play a big role in how much I shed? I randomly grabbed my hair in my back side (neck) of head and pulled without using any strengh, but still got like 8 hairs every time I did it. Is this normal? Could this be the cause of my male pattern baldness being so aggressive? And if so, what do I do about it?

2) Should I just use finasteride for a few months, and then start with minoxidil? I'm so scared of shedding badly, so I want to begin with minoxidil after I shed from finasteride.

Any information is welcome, even things that are not mentioned in my post. I want to be as prepared as possible for this.

PS: My scalp is itchiest right behind the crown, at the top back of my head.

I don't know how much help I'll be, since I can't comment about you pulling out 8 hairs with no real effort. Someone else will know more about that than me.

I've been on finasteride 3 months, I'm 25. I would definitely suggest to stay on finasteride for a year, then only go on min if you need too. Min would be a pain to apply twice a day for the rest of your life. Also, I'm kind of scared of min because I keep thinking if I go on it, then stop in a year or two, my hair will react negatively to it, and more hair (other than the regrowth) will fall out.

Keep in mind that on finasteride, sometimes shedding is normal at first (especially around the 3 month mark). Perhaps some guys experience shedding when they just start finasteride? I'm not too sure.

Thanks for your reply rtc84.

Would you recommend to just go with finasteride in the beginning and move on to minoxidil after my finasteride shed, so that I don't shed from both minoxidil and finasteride at the same time and look completely bald?

Well, yes. But also, if you start finasteride, and it's going good. You shed a bit, then it stops. Then if everything seems to be going good in a year but you still want to see if you can get some regrowth, then start min. Then if you start to shed again once you start min, you know for certain that the min would be causing that shedding. If you start both at the same time, you'll never know what is helping and/or what is causing any side effects.

I had a shedding question a few days ago, and I posted this: viewtopic.php?f=61&t=70658
