Hi,

(24,M)

I was losing hair since 2015 and i was ignoring it, as i had great hair, till few months ago, i noticed hair density was decreased and surface of my head was visible through the hair. I started taking care of my hair, got rid of dandruff and hairfall is under control ever since, very few of them fall out when i massage it with oil. Also, hair which fall out are very small and thin, like i have 3-4 cm long hair all over and those which fall are about 1 cm without root(white bulb). 3-4 cm ones never fall out....

To get rid of dandruff i trimmed my hair very small every 2 weeks(aug17-sep17) applied shampoo and almond oil every 2-3days. Lastly i shaved my head in sep17 and let it grow.

Now, I shampoo with head and shoulders every 3-4 days and apply almond oil every 2-3 days.

Don't know if it is Male Pattern or something else but i have lost a lot in front of my head uniformly and i can also see a little spot at the crown area.

I wish to keep what i have....

Should i start minoxidil, will it cause hairfall initially ? Does it have adverse effects?

Take better pictures and look closely if there's any hair miniaturization. Looks like your hairline may have just matured. You might stay that way for a long time. Just keep an eye for miniaturization.

Do some research on this site, there is a lot of good information on here. Yes of course you should go see a derm. A derm can evaluate your hair and get you on finasteride for treatment if you want to go that route.

Can't tell your hairline from older pics and hair is longer, so hard to compare. But if you have a naturally high hairline(check your teen pictures), then receding a bit is normal(although still considered hairloss). If that's your hairloss in 2 years, good news is it's not aggressive. If you're concerned about your current hairline, go see a derm to evaluate, as your hair miniaturization doesn't seem obvious from your pictures.

But problem with old pictures is that i never had to pull my hair back for hairline check. But the thing that scares me is my hair was really dense and thick in front just 7 months ago, now when observed directly under light my scalp is visible through my hair. I can like see each hair strand separately and clearly, which scares me.
I ll go to the derm tomorrow.

Just don't panic, I too have noticed rapid hair loss only in the past few days, and I'm only 19, I have no idea what's causing it, or what I can do. Book an appointment with your GP, and then maybe a dermatologist afterwards if you're not reassured, they'll recommend some drugs. I'm going to a GP tomorrow, I don't know if it's male pattern baldness or due to trauma and my severe depression. Also do some research on the various products so you can compare what the GP recommends with what you know works for others. Meanwhile I think you can probably buy some Nizoral shampoo, I'm really stressed also I don't know how long treatment might take and if it will bring my hair loss back from the last few days. With yours, it looks like it isn't too agressive
