I am 56 yrs old, 20 yrs ago one of the first Infomercials sold a hair treatment,I used it for a year or two, I used Minoxidol before it was a perscription, then for several years when it was by perscription only. Tried Dr Proctors entire line, Dr Lees 15% Xandrox for a few years, FNS for a couple years. Propecia for a few months, stopped because I suffered side effects. Other things I remember were Folicare, Tricomin, Nizoral 2% Shampoo, Retin A, Nioxen, probably more but I can not remember.
About 6 weeks ago I started using Nuhair, serum and their DHT Blocker pills and vitamins, with 5% Rogaine, yesterday I switched from Rogaine to Spectral DNC. I am not optimistic, if anything positive happens I will update this posting.

You probably should have stopped changing all the regimes and stuck it out with propecia for a bit longer and rode the side effects out. At 50 it probably would also help with any prostate problems you might have

Why do so many of you think that you can "ride out" the side effects from finasteride while maintaining the beneficial effects? Finasteride inhibits 5alpha-reductase (5AR). Thee enzyme 5AR is present in the hair follicle. It's present in the penis. It's present in the CNS. Do you think finasteride selectively becomes less effective in places where 5AR inhibition is undesireable?

It's chemical castration, plain and simple.

I am about a Norwood 3A, I started loosing my hair when I was about 35 yrs old, but the hair I have on top is very thin. I did use almost everything for at least 6 months to a year as a minimum, all to no avail. Regarding Propecia I had serious concerns about the possibility of damaging a healthy prostate, plus I did have the adverse side effects. For a shampoo I currently use Nizoral 2%, and T- Gel.

I would be HAPPY to be at norwood 3A at your age IF it was me. but thats besides the point.... you can either continue to "trust" medications and use them or go the surgery route if you really care about getting your hair back.

There's a lot of talk about regimines here, but for the most part, I believe that most of us could say the same thing you did. Little to no results.

Sometimes a "shed" is almost viewed as a good thing :roll: but the hair is falling like the snow in December.

Remember, #1, everyone is different. We are programmed to lose hair at a certain rate at a certain time in a certain quantity. Sometimes, a product will interrupt that cycle, so it makes sense to try everything to see what works. I have been able to stop a serious shed for months with essential oils. They said I was :? but it's true FOR ME. I was able to get a serious 3 month back disc herniation healed with an herbal patch from a Chinese herb patch. I have no pain. It might not work for everyone, but for me, it did.

There are some of us that will slowly lose all of our hair no matter what we do. I suppose in the end, we'll all be bald.

Finasteride simply lowers DHT serum concentrations below a certain threshold so that hair loss is minimised. The lowered DHT levels have NO effect on other parts of the body (except the 2% who experience sides). This is why the drug dosage for BPH is FIVE times higher than that for hair loss. Britannia: With all due respect, I think you are completely wrong. The lowered DHT levels do have an effect on other parts of the body. And will have an effect as long as you use finasteride.

Wherever the Type II enzyme is being used to produce DHT will have reduced activity due to 1mg of finasteride. It's just that simple IMHO. The drug is in our blood and travels to other parts of the body. Not just the follicles.

How is it that finasteride., once in our blood, will not travel to other parts of the body that produce the Type II enzyme, and NOT have an effect on that "system"? I don't see how this could happen? I've never read a study where this is the conclusion.

Now is that a bad thing for everyone? I don't know, some say no big deal, some say it is a problem.

How did you contend with the orange stained scalp from using Spectral DNC. I'm thinking of returning mine and getting my money back, unless I can come up with an acceptable solution.
