Ok... i'm at my desk, i scratch my head and a few hairs fall on top of a sheet of paper. I've noticed at the end of the hairs there is quite often a white bulb? maybe a scrap of scalp? Anyways, my question is: Is that my hair falling out at the very root never to come back??!!

As far as I know, that's how it's supposed to happen. A nice big bulb coming with the hair it far better than no bulb at all as that means the hair follicle itself is in trouble.

Completely untrue. You can't conclude what is going on with your hair just by looking at the bulb of the shed hair. The only way to know is to notice change of hairline shape, thinning etc. If determining whether you have male pattern baldness would be that easy each doctor could do it. But not one doctor will look at your bulbs to make a diagnosis.

I'm pretty sure that the health of the bulb is directly correlated with the health of the hair. At least, histologically. Microscopic examination of a hair bulb can tell you a lot about the health of the scalp and the overall health of the individual that hair came from. Many things can be determined from examination of the hair and hair bulb including malnutrition, drug use, and autoimmune pathologies.

I'm sorry, but I have to disagree.

Ok then please find me a medical paper that would give you information how to diagnose male pattern baldness by looking at the bulb.
