Hey guys I gave Rogaine Foam a great run, 1.5 YEARS I also added retin-a .025 %, at first I attributed a small shed to rogaine foam (supposed to be stronger and absorbed better) and also know that retin-a can cause irritation and some initial loss, so I was okay with that. I was previously using Kirkland and a ton of it from May '03 till March of '07 (Some form of Rogaine/Kirkland Liquid). I also was taking 1.25 mg of proscar (name brand since May '03). After all this time I can say Foam did NOT give me anything in fact it ate some of my hairline. I upped to 1.25 mg of proscar 2 X a day ( 8 months ago) in hopes to maybe get things going. I decided two weeks ago to just ditch the foam, it was easy to apply but I never felt it truly hit the scalp like the liquid does, I know they say 85 % regrew hair, maybe there is something that happens to guys who use the liquid and switch over.. I think people who never used rogaine before use foam and do grow hair as it's "rogaine" and it will grow hair, but possibly if you have been using liquid the foam just doesn't cut it, again this is MY OPINION and MY EXPERIENCE. I have a mirror and I know what I have and what I don't have. Foam was great to apply but now that I think about it, the white residue wasn't all that great, this happens the longer you hair is, and since it being a true foam, almost impossible to not get it on the hair unless you stand there like a nut dissecting each cm of your hair. The liquid dropper allows ease of use and you know exactly where it is going! I'm now back to using Rogaine Liquid (name brand 5 %) thanks to the foam being so popular... the price has dropped so much and I can now afford it! I find it better to apply brand name Rogaine than get Kirkland cheap and apply more, in Kirkland's defense it does work and you are getting "minoxidil" and allowed me to get some form of minoxidil at a cheap rate that I could afford where as I would not be able to buy Brand name back then as I use 2 ML each application. I use it on the back mid anterior and hairline so 2 ML is JUST FINE! I'm bumping my retin-a to .5 % ( which what was used in the studies). I will be using it 1 X a day ( no pre-set time) as long as I apply it once a day I'm fine and if I miss a day I feel it still is in the scalp, retin-a is a good treatment, but be aware of irritation! Emu oil works great, I use that daily usually 1-2 hours before I'm going to wash my hair it seems to help out a ton! Sorry for the ramble guys but I gave Foam a great run just didn't give me any "extra" results and if anything gave me much inferior results than liquid. One thing I did notice is the baby fine hair on the face was NOT there when using FOAM, yet on Liquid I had non pigmented hair around the cheeks like almost clear fuzz, which can be shaved off, and this was NOT due to the liquid "dripping" down my face! Anyone else experience this from swithing from liquid to Foam? Thanks for letting me rant and mumble.. you guys are always great!

I'm actually noticing the hair cheek thing with the foam... I'm also dropping foam but going to Kirkland. I'm going to apply 3 times in the morning and at night to hopefully get the same benefits (minus the cost) of Xandrox 15. See what happens...

Glad to see some people are getting smart and dropping the foam, it was all marketing hype. More and more people have finally realized this and dumped it in the garbage. More info has leaked out as of late proving liquid is far superior!

Well I gave foam 2 years and it never really gave the excellent results I got from liquid, so I switched back.

I actually find using a sprayer (liquid) much preferrable to smearing foam in my hair. Never liked how it left my hand smelling, even after repeated washings. IMO foam doesn't, and won't, live up to the hype.

0.5% Retin-A???

that is some strong shlt... i have never read any study that uses 0.5%

normally it is 0.01-0.05% and the strongest cream i seen is 0.1%

i guess you will cook your scalp with that strength.

I planned on trying the foam - but then I went w/ Joe's hairmuck which can only be added to the liquid. So I just stuck w/ Good ol' Dr. Lee's 5%.

Foam works better for most people.

A couple guys keep saying it doesn't. Teh studies they show are far from antything scientific

Foam worked GREAT for me !

I would guess most people who don't get good results from foam simply aren't using enough. If you have a decent amount of hair you need to use much more than the reccomended dosage, I use a can of foam every 14 days so I'm using a little more th 2X's the rec dosage

I think part of his problem is he went from using 2mL twice a day, to using the recommended foam dosage. If you reduce your dose, you will lose hair.

The liquid is stronger if you use it consistently. That was known. But the foam has a higher percentage of people improving because it is easier to stick to since it is not as messy. If you find the liquid easier to stick to, or as easy to stick to, stay with the liquid. And as cheap as the liquid is, you can use a higher dose and get better results.

Nice to hear the prices dropped. I only get the equate minoxidil, or other cheap stuff at 5%. I'm not sure I could have minoxidil in my hair if I were in a relationship. And I know it sheds soon if you stop or reduce. So no point in me getting greasy. 5% diluted with ethanol and applied 1 hour before my shower would be doable though.

Glad you have gotten great results from the foam but most people do not, consider yourself lucky, wish it worked as well for me, I really liked its cosmetic appearance. And BTW, I did use considerably more than the recommended 1/2 cap.

As far as studies being less than scientific, the only study done on the foam is the Phase III clinical trial for FDA approval, it is as scientific as you can get, and the results were less than great, nowhere near the hair count data of any of the liquid studies, and that includes the 2% minoxidil studies.
