I purchased a custom system. The only change I made from stock was the color.

Since receiving it I knew it was the wrong shade and far too dark ;however, I was advised to wash and cut it and that it would match. I did so and it is still way too dark and now has a red undertone from washing so much trying to fade it.

I've also been told that I must have taken the sample from a different part of my head which I did not.
I took the sample from my front Temple which is what I'm comparing to in the first picture.

But just to make my point even more, there's a picture of the front, the side, and the back.
Even my stylist of a year who cut it, said it doesn't match whatsoever and nearly a dozen friends that have watched me wear a stock color unit for the last year said the same.

I see no match anywhere on my head!

Match or no match?

Thank you in advance

not an exact match, a shade too dark, but with oxidation, will most likely lighted up be ok.

Unfortunately that's a lot more than a shade. I've washed it well over a dozen times with clarifying shampoo and Dawn soap and it's nowhere close.

Looking at that first picture blond next to Red Brown? You really think that's close

Not first pic.... Temples and lighting can through things off. Was looking at 3rd pic when making my comment. What supplier did you use so that I can see their color ring codes?

It's a custom system as I indicated so I'm not seeing where the relevance of number would come into play.

You can clearly see from the side and rear shot also we are tremendously further apart than one shade.

To give you a bit more information I've previously always used stock systems. Primarily number 18.
One time I ordered a 17 which is one shade darker and it was by far too dark. To give you an example this custom is probably 3 plus Shades even darker than that 17 was.

I agree but being that the first picture we're talkin the hair is 1 mm apart from each other the lighting would affect both equally...

You asked whether it was a match or not, and I responded ..not a match..as for color codes, the suppliers I use for either custom orders or stock use the same color codes. Was trying to assist you in determining correct color, but not possible without codes....sorry

Absolutely. I appreciate your input. There is no color code assigned to custom though. That's the point of custom numbers are to try to match as close to what a stock number is. Custom is working to match it to the sample for one specific person.

I can definitely see a color difference in the 3rd pic. Excuse my ignorance, but is it not possible to dye it using a semi permanent to test before using a permanent hair dye?

This probably not the right color but a product like this...

https://bigen-usa.com/products/semi-permanent?variant=18866710020169
No. Dying is only to make something darker. If it's too dark you have to bleach it to remove color and then dye it to add back the correct color.

Even if possible it would destroy the already over-processed hair. That's the point of ordering and paying extra for a custom... so that it's made right from the get-go.

If that's overreacting...haha

Again I appreciate your input but I've shown a dozen people in person from 10 ft to up close and they all say it's a tremendous difference.

The last picture is of a stocky 18... do you see how that matches the sides?

So you're saying the second to last and last look equal?
Quite obviously it's night and day.

You have to consider that our eyes see such a difference immediately because we tend to look VERY VERY closely. but from a psychological perspective people who dont know you are wearing a system cant see it. they are too busy with other stuff. they dont have time to think about your hair like you do. if they do their life is miserable

So if you say that the system on this picture is colour 18 and you still feel uncomfortable which I can absolutely understand I would say you have to get the #20. Its one shade brighter

No I think you're misunderstanding. The top two are the custom color which is not assigned a number. The bottom one is a stock 18 which is just a this is the closest stock we have. The 18 looks great the custom looks awful and way too dark

Okay Sorry. Well, in my opinion the photos on your first post match better than the 18. But if you dont think so maybe do more pictures. Can only judge from the photos

I had the same "problem" been wearing the #20 for 1,5 years while my natural hair is actually darker. ( No one ever noticed) now im wearing 18 and it looks even more perfect

Again thank you for your opinion as I'm the one that asked for it. But just to be redundant I would like anybody else kind enough to give an opinion to tell me this first picture looks better than the second picture as far as a match.

I've shown five more people since I started this thread and pictures and they're like oh come on it's obvious that's brown.

I'm starting to get a feeling this board is controlled by this specific vendor. As this is the board that referred him highly and now this is the board that is telling me Brown matches blond better than blond matches blonde hahahah

I hear you. I've been doing this for a year so I'm very familiar with it. I guess I was just extremely lucky that an 18 is a 90 to 95% match. I was willing to pay extra to get that couple extra percent perfect and it went about 4 shades darker.

Yea I feel you. I also tried many colours in those 3 years..but I went in the other direction xD didnt buy darker ones but brighter. bought so many systems.. Then I went to the 20 and now im very satisfied with 18

Did you ever try #20? If no I would give it a last try.

Again thank you for your input but I think you might be misunderstanding me. I have no problem with an 18. I've used a 20 as well which is good but an 18 is better. I have no problem with the stock 18 or 20 the problem is the custom.

I didn't just randomly order different colors in a hope that I would guess right. I ordered custom because they assure you it will be made and identical match to your hair. Again I mean this with respect but anybody that says that first picture my temple matches the top of my head needs to visit an opthamologist haha

Yea of course its obvious that your temples are way brighter. No doubt. And yea Ive been misunderstanding you a bit but got you now
Its really annoying that the costum is worse than a simple stock. If they are accomodating they would give you the money back or send you a new one.
