I Think The Supposed Side Effects From Finnasteride Are Mostly Nonsense

all the research I see says that the percentage of people who report sexual side effects from finasteride are about the same percentage of general public non users who report sexual problems. A lot of it is nocebo too - you think it's gonna cause problems and that anxiety hurts your sexual performance. In reality, finasteride has very little effect on your sexual performance

What do you guys think about this? It's been proven that people taking finasteride without knowing what it is had less side effects- it's all in your head

What do I think?

STUPIDEST f*****g POST OF 2018.

(Congratulations User, you have been nominated for the award of "Stupidest f*****g Post of 2018 on the forum GourmetStyleWellness. While there are still a few other users in the running for having the STUPIDEST f*****g POST of 2018, yours stands out to us. Hopefully you will attend the ceremony on April 1, 2018 where we will reveal the winner of the STUPIDEST f*****g POST of 2018. Please RSVP asap, you f*****g idiot.)

This is what I hear a lot from people that are pro-finasteride. But this is no more than an assumption... This is also not something you can proof AT ALL.

It is not necesarrily the low DHT levels that seem to be the cause of the finasteride side effects. Let's not forgot finasteride does nto DIRECTLY lowers DHT. It lowers 5-alpha-reductase wich is responsible for the conversion of T to DHT but it has more functions besides that. It is for example very important for healthy NEUROsteroid levels which is something you do not want to mess with...

Yeah I don't have side effects, not yet anyways but I am worried about what the long term effects of lowering my androgen levels will be. I feel like a cuck neutering myself sometimes. I am also worried about the possible mental sides from the neurosteroids like you mentioned. Sometimes I want to quit but I already have a very bad hairline and very thin hair on finasteride and without it I will probably be totally bald by my mid 20s.

You've racked up 300 posts on a hair loss forum in less than a year. You're hardly in a position to be calling people losers.

Look, life is about making adult choices. Intuitively one can tell suppressing a hormone probably isn’t good. But finasteride is one of the few tools we have at our disposal to fight hairloss. There are no guarantees, one can only weigh the risk. I personally think it’s worth it because my image is important to me.

Ive never understood the worry with the sides on finisteride. Clearly they are low, there will be soo many people out there on it, with no sides. This forum is such a small sector of that. I’ve been on finisteride for over a year now, no sides and to be honest didn’t really consider them. I was desperate before going on it, so the reversible sides Wernt a worry.

If you do not understand the worries regarding the drug then you simply do not now everything the drug does in your body.
I have nothing against people taking it, especially if they do not experience the side effects but I do feel that everyone should have a better awareness of what the drug does. Unfortunately it is relatively recent since science really started looking into this topic.

Just putting my 2 cents in - I am a healthy male in his early 20's, work out regularly, great diet... before finasteride my libido was insane, would go at it with my girl 2 or 3 times a day. About 2 months into using finasteride I started to experience complete sexual dysfunction - loss of morning wood, complete loss of erections, zero libido... It really fucked me up. I'm not here saying "don't try finasteride" because it works great for many people and I think if you're serious about fighting hair loss than you should at least try it. But, I am saying that the side effects were 100% real for me. Luckily, 3 months after quitting I have returned to normal. Just because you don't have side effects (and maybe you will in time, mine took a few months to develop) doesn't mean the sides are "nonsense". I wish it worked for me, but instead it fucked up my sex life for a good while.

Sorry, I think my last message has been misconstrued. Probably how I wrote it. I 100% agree that there could be side effects in a small number of people. I was going to start a new thread, as I feel really strongly about, but I will put it on here. My point is more that the pros FAR outway the potential cons with finisteride. If I was given a genuine choice to keep my hair, but require v**** to get an erection, or have the occasional mind fuzz for the rest of my life, it would be a no brainier for me. My point is more, that for me hairloss is an all encompassing constant worry. I think about it first thing and last thing at night. Like most of you I lurk on here, reading stories, occasionally offering my feedback, but for me the thought of the sides doesn’t come into it. For what it’s worth I’ve been on finasteride for over a year and seem to be maintaining. If that continues, there is no amount of erectile dysfunction, mind fog or sensitive nipples that would ever get me to give up, as keeping my hair isnthe single most important thing to me in my life. I’m sure others feel the same, and I appreciate to others, the ability to masterbate 5 times a day is a real deal breaker, so if finasteride puts a stop to that they quit. Just my thought guys on the matter

well i have been on a lot stronger drugs than finasteride (oral spironolactone, and due to my sadness over being bald abused diazepam and hydrocodone) and my penis still worked fine, so I think the comment about "weak dicked" is probably not accurate, it should be "weak minded" instead

ED can definitely be in your head. you think of girls and try to get hard, but all you can think about instead is "oh sh*t i took a finasteride 6 months ago" and your dick goes soft. i am willing to bet that if someone was slipping finasteride into your diet without telling you, the majority of people wouldn't notice any difference

The only side effect I really experience from finasteride is lethargy, I battle this by taking Friday to Sunday off. Seems to work great in regards to sides, let’s hope a 3 day break a week doesn’t cause more hair regression

@Cue Bald ; no gyno with spironolactone brah ?

i took 100mg spironolactone once a day (i think, it was a few years ago) and on the odd ocasion i took some estrogen tablets (i was making them into a topical so i only orally took about 10) - my dick worked fine but i did get gyno, unfortunately my chest is still a little puffy even now. my nipples became very sensitive even to putting on a t shirt (that has dissapeared completely), that was when i stopped everything apart from the finasteride

"You got lung cancer from smoking 1 package a day? I smoked 2 packages a day and I still do not have lung cancer"

ED can indeed be in your head, as can some of the other symptoms. I didn't even think about side effects when I started finasteride. The only worry I had at the time was whether it would work for me.

I think a lot of guys who claim to have decreased sex drive either:

Have an ugly wife/girlfriend
Have a hot wife/girlfriend but have been with them too long and are bored
Have low test
Are depressed because of their hair loss
Depressed for another reason

Then they pin the low sex drive on finasteride, when it isnt finasteride at all, but you read the horror stories and convinced yourself finasteride is responsible. The mind is a powerful thing. A lot of back pain for example is entirely psychological with zero physical problems with the back.

finasteride user for 3 years and no sides, even my jizz is thick and milky.
