If you have taken HairDX test respond please

Please respond only if you have taken both the HairDx test and Fina (equal or more to 0.5mg and less or equal to 2 mg).

I am talking about the test that "predicts" the efficacy of Finasteride. I assumed, from their website that you will, in addition to a score, get a prediction for a "great response", "moderate response", "subtle/low response". Please correct me if I am wrong.

The reason for this poll is obvious and I think it would be very help[ful for many of us. Whatever results come us, should be handled with care (many things remained uncontrolled) but could give an interesting idea.

My doctor just informed me about this procedure. I have an appointment for next week to get the work done, then it will most likely take a week or so to get the results. I'll definitely post my experiences once this whole thing has transpired...

I took the test and it said I would have a low response to finasteride and there is a 70 percent chance I have the gene for balding. So because of that I use Proxiphen and still take 1mg of Propecia because a low response is better than no response. If there was a 70 percent chance I did NOT have the balding gene, I would have quit Propecia. I obviously don't have my father's balding gene. He was balding at 18 years old and lost most of his hair in his 20's. He is a NW6-7. I am in my 40's and mostly just have age related thinning with some minor female pattern balding. So in my case the test was correct. I have the gene but its just not expressing itself like it did for my dad. Or on the other side of the coin, there is a 30 percent chance I don't have the gene for balding so that is why I did not go bald like my dad. So you have to understand the test just tells you if you have the gene for balding but its not going to tell you if the gene will express itself like your father or grandfathers. My dad's OLDER brother is 74 and barely a NW2 with just the normal age related thinning for a man his age. I am sure he has the balding gene( because his father was a solid NW7 at fairly young age) but it did not express itself. I think I pretty much following the "footsteps" of my dad's brother. If you are already balding then you just need to take the finasteride test to see if you are a good responder. If not, then I would consider Proxiphen along Propecia. Dr Rassman says Propecia will be of some benefit to everyone who takes it. Hope that helps with understanding the tests

Irish at least your lucky, you showed you had a great response to finasteride. I showed a low response . I would try RU but I won't use anything that is not regulated by quality control and plus there is not enough studies to show what that stuff will do in the long term. The only one who raves about that stuff is someone who had virtually no hair loss to begin with. You had more hair loss than him so your results would be more convincing than his results. However, unfortunately, you never had used it for a year yet to know for sure.

Swap in the inside of your cheek collects 10's of thousands of cells if not 100's of thousands. The cell collection is not what I'm worried about.

I just got my test results for male pattern baldness:

"Low Risk" (Negative for the "short" CAG allele; CAG >= 24). My CAG score is a 26.

My test results stated that I have a 60% chance of not developing hair loss. However, on their website, it states:

"...men who test negative for the variant AR gene have up to a 90% chance of not developing hair loss"

So, I'm kinda confused about the discrepancy in the % numbers.

I'm a 32 year old male who is currently a Norwood 1-1.5. As my hairline started to mature in college, i panicked, and started taking 1.25mg of finasteride daily with Nizoral 2% (once a week). I've stuck to this regimen fairly religiously for the past 9 years or so.

It could be that my hairline was naturally maturing and I didn't really need to start finasteride so early on, and even with my encouraging HairDX results, I can't seem to quit finasteride. I fear that I've grown dependent on it! :sobbing:

To compound matters, the finasteride has taken a severe toll on my libido the past year. My desire is not what it used to be and the quality of my erection has gone down.

Should I quit finasteride, guys? I'm just concerned about the % discrepancy above, but I've emailed HairDX asking them to clarify whether I have a 60% or 90% chance of not developing hair loss. And, should i get a miniaturization test to truly confirm whether I'm safe from hair loss?! :dunno:

p.s: this site is amazing! I was a lurker for a long time (9+ years!) when I first started my regimen in college. Posters like Bryan (and many others) were so instrumental in educating me about hair loss and helping me to take action.

Just saw a segment on The Doctors TV show about a new company called Existence Genetics that's offering genetic testing for male pattern baldness. Discussed the test with them and they said they not only provide an analysis of risk of a man losing his hair by looking at two genes (as opposed to just the single gene that HairDx tests for) but also provides an analysis of fitness related genes. They said they do this because cardio exercise is one of the lifestyle preventions for slowing down hair loss - I found this really interesting that they seem to provide information on all forms of preventing hairloss as opposed to only focusing on medications. I called and talked with a person at Existence Genetics and they said they just started at the end of 2010 to provide testing throughout the world. The rep confirmed their website that says the testing was developed by licensed medical doctors in the US led by Dr. Colby, who is the head of the company and the Doctor I saw on The Doctors TV show. They said they provide a type of panel test for hair loss that looks at different genes for hair loss and exercising and that a number of dermatologists in California are already offering this to their patients.

The service seems new so it may take time for people to hear about this as I never even knew about it until i saw it on TV and then checked out their website. I asked my doctor to contact them as after reading about it online and talking with them, i want the testing and she said she would to check them out. Seems legit to me but let me know what you think if you look into them also.
